This study aimed to find out the validity and reliability of the Sensory Processing and Self-Regulation Checklist (SPSRC), which can evaluate both sensory processing ability and self-regulation ability, by translating it into Korean. After forming an expert group for adaptation and conducting translation verification, the content validity was confirmed through three professors of the Department of Occupational Therapy and seven occupational therapists. In addition the construct validity, concurrent validity, and internal consistency were confirmed for children (30 typical children and 30 ASD children) between the ages of 4 and 6 who agreed to participate in the study. Concurrent validity was measured through Short Sensory Profile (SSP), and test-retest reliability was verified with 42 children who agreed to re-evaluation among the children who conducted the initial evaluation. The results of this study are as follows.
First, as a result of content validity verification, the content validity index (CVI) of the Korean version of the SPSRC was 0.9 or higher in all 130 items and the CVI of all items was also 0.99, showing a high level of content validity. Second, concurrent validity was measured through Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient, and as a result of comparing the Korean version of SPSRC and SSP, it showed a significant relationship in social/cognitive/emotional development items (p<.05). also, the other sub-items and total score showed statistically significant positive strong correlation (p<.01).
Third, as a result of comparing the differences in the self-regulation and sensory processing area of the two groups to verify construct validity, there was a statistically significant difference (p<.001), there was also a statistically significant differences in the sub-items of self-regulation and sensory processing areas (p<.001).
Fourth, internal consistency was measured using Cronbach’s α, and test-retest reliability was measured using Pearson correlation coefficient. As a result, internal consistency was .700 to .975 in the self-regulation area, sensory processing area, and all items of the Korean version of SPSRC. In the case of test-retest reliability, the correlation coefficient was .937 to .997 confirming the high level of reliability.
Therefore, through the results of this study, it was confirmed that the Korean version of SPSRC is an evaluation tool with high validity and reliability. It is expected to be used as an evaluation tool for planning treatment goals in future clinical and as useful evidence for related research.
