The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of self-absorption and emotion dysregulation on the relationship between negative affect intensity and social anxiety in university students. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 385 university students aged 18 to 29 across the country, and the data of the final 362 people were used for analysis. Collected data was analyzed with SPSS 28.0, AMOS 28.0 programs. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis were conducted, and the mediating effects of the structural equation model and the research model were verified. The results of this study are as follows: First, negative affect intensity, self-absorption, emotion dysregulation, and social anxiety were all found to have significant positive correlations. Second, negative affect intensity did not significantly affect social anxiety. Third, self-absorption found a significant complete mediating effect in the relationship between negative affect intensity and social anxiety. Fourth, emotion dysregulation did not show a significant mediating effect in the relationship between negative affect intensity and social anxiety. Fifth, dual mediating effect was significant of self-absorption and emotion dysregulation in the relationship between negative affect intensity and social anxiety. As a result of the study, negative affect intensity, self-absorption, and emotion dysregulation are variables closely related to social anxiety, and self-absorption is a strong mediating variable on the relationship between negative affect intensity and social anxiety. In addition, it was verified that self-absorption and emotion dysregulation sequentially double-mediated the path between negative affect intensity and social anxiety. Based on these research results, the significance and limitations of this study and suggestions for succeeding studies were discussed.
