The “Song cycle” is a suite consisting of several vocal pieces with related content and musical styles, and belongs to the category of art song. This vocal genre, marked by German composer Beethoven's , was formed at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century and flourished during the Romantic period, which was also the golden period of the development of the Song cycle, As of today, Germany and France are more representative countries in the development of western vocal music divertimento, and have produced many masterpieces, such as:German composer Schubert's ; Schumann ; Brahms ; french composer Berlioz ; Fauré ; Debussy , Ravel ,etc. The Western Song cycle differs from “Oratorio“ and ”Cantata“ in that it is a separate vocal genre closely related to art song, but more refined and visceral than art song. With the development and changes of China's modern society, western music culture entered our country, and composer Huang Zi drew on western compositional techniques to create a large Song cycle called The , with lyrics taken from the poet Bai Juyi's The of the Tang Dynasty, which marked the official beginning of the development of Song cycles in China. Later, other composers in China also began to experiment with Song cycles, and a large number of Song cycles emerged, such as the large-scale comprehensive Song cycle The and The ; the Song cycle of ancient poems and ; the patriotic and homesick Song cycle and , etc. This paper contains five chapters and conclusions: The first chapter is a historical tracing of the Song cycle. The chapter is divided into two sections, which describe the development of the Germany-France Song cycle and the development of the Chinese Song cycle. The chapter provides an understanding of the history of the development of the Chinese Song cycle through a comparison of countries, nationalities, history and social changes. The second chapter is on the aesthetic connotations of the lyrics of Song cycles. The development of the Song-cycle is inextricably linked to the art song, and in the art song the importance of the lyrics cannot be overstated; without excellent lyrics, it cannot be called a good art song. And the Song-cycle is more integral to the lyrics than to the art song. The chapter is divided into two sections, a study of lyrics in Germany-France Song cycles and a study of lyrics in Chinese Song cycles, to summarise the similarities and differences in the connotations of lyrics in the creation of Chinese and Western Song cycles by giving examples of comparison. The third chapter is a comparison of Chinese and Western Song cycle composition techniques. The first section is divided into two sections, the first is on the compositional techniques of Germany-France Song cycles, taking Germany-France classical Song cycles as examples, and analysing them in terms of melody, accompaniment weaving, tune structure and tonal layout; the second section is on the compositional techniques of Chinese Song cycles, taking the three representative Song cycles and as examples, and analysing them in terms of the ethnic character of the works, the multi-layered use of tonal modality, the main position of the piano accompaniment, and the similarities and differences in the compositional techniques of Chinese and Western Song cycles, This section analyses the similarities and differences in the compositional approaches of Chinese and Western Song cycles, taking into account the ethnic character of the works, the multi-layered use of tonality, and the main position of the piano accompaniment. The four chapter is a Comparative Study on the Singing Styles and Techniques of Chinese and Western Song cycle. This chapter is also divided into two sections. The first section is on the singing styles and techniques of German-French Song cycles, taking the singing of some Song cycles as an example, and analysing them from four perspectives: language characteristics, emotional expression, musical image and the role of steel accompaniment; the second section is on the singing techniques and styles of Chinese Song cycles, in which three aspects are explored: the ethnic characteristics of Chinese singing, the biting of words, and the embellishment of cadences. This chapter is a summary of my efforts through practice to master the singing style of the Chinese Song cycle and to express the work accurately. The five chapter deals with the development status of Chinese Song cycle. The chapter is divided into two sections. The first section deals with the opportunities for the development of Chinese Song cycle; the second section deals with the challenges for the development of Chinese Song cycle, which is elaborated from two perspectives: the contradiction between the inheritance of works and the concept of innovation and the contradiction between the teaching of singing and the current situation of society. The conclusion part summarizes the full text from three angles and puts forward suggestions, namely: to clarify the concept and scope of Chinese vocal divertimento, to improve the creation level of Chinese vocal divertimento, to optimize the teaching and singing of Chinese Song cycle. Finally, I hope that my theoretical views will make a modest contribution to the development of the Chinese Song cycle.
