This study attempted to investigate the effect of mothers' dependence on smartphones on infants' playability and social ability. Through the results of this study, we intend to provide basic data for mothers to use their smartphones properly. In order to achieve this purpose, the following research questions were set. Research Question 1. How does the mother's dependence on smartphones affect the playability of infants and toddlers? Research Question 2. What is the effect of mothers' dependence on smartphones on infants and toddlers' social abilities of infants and toddlers? The data collection of this study was conducted on 283 mothers and teachers of early childhood education institutions in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do from December 10, 2021 to January 29, 2022. The researcher called the institution in advance to explain the purpose and contents of the study to the head of the institution and asked for cooperation. He/she visited the agreed institution in person and delivered the questionnaire survey method and precautions when responding to the daycare center teachers and mothers. The early childhood education institution distributed 283 copies of the questionnaire to each household, and the researcher visited again after 1 to 2 weeks to analyze 263 copies excluding 20 copies of unfaithful. The collected data were analyzed by multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 27.0 statistical program, using frequency and percent Cronbach's α coefficient rate, descriptive statistics, Pearson's timely correlation calculation, t test, and one-way variance analysis. The results of the analysis through this study are as follows. First, resistance factors were relatively the highest in terms of mother's smartphone use, playability, and social ability of infants, followed by factors such as daily life disorder, withdrawal, and virtual world orientation. By sub-factors of infant playfulness, the expression factors of physical spontaneity and pleasure were the highest, followed by factors such as social spontaneity, cognitive spontaneity, and sense of humor. In the sub-factors, factors such as sociality, initiative, and cooperation were high in order. Second, there was a significant negative correlation between the mother's dependence on smartphones and the playability of infants and toddlers, and there was a negative relationship between the mother's excessive immersion in smartphones and the more she used it. Both the mother's sub-factors of smartphone dependence and the infant's playability sub-factors showed a significant negative correlation, and the mother's daily life disorder and tolerance factors showed a significant negative correlation with the infant's sense of humor. Third, there was a significant negative correlation between the mother's dependence on smartphones and the infant's social ability, and it was found that there was a negative relationship between the mother's excessive immersion and use of smartphones. There was also a significant negative correlation between the sub-factors of mother's smartphone dependence and the sub-factors of infant and infant social ability. Fourth, it was found that the degree of mother's smartphone use had a significant negative effect on the playability of infants and toddlers. Therefore, it can be seen that the more the mother excessively immerse herself in the smartphone, the lower the playability of infants and toddlers. Fifth, looking at the effect of the mother's total smartphone use on the overall social ability of infants and toddlers, it was found that the mother's smartphone use had a significant negative effect on the social ability of infants. Therefore, it can be seen that the more mothers excessively immerse themselves in smartphones, the lower the social ability of infants and toddlers. These findings suggest that mothers' dependence on smartphones is a major variable on infants' playfulness and social ability.
