This research endeavors to scrutinize the augmentation of sociality in adolescents. characterized as an amalgamation of law-abiding behavior, cooperative spirit, sociability, and autonomy, fostered through engagement in creative experiential activities. The study seeks to judiciously select and suitably adapt youth play productions for application within a diverse array of creative experiential contexts, with a particular emphasis on their efficacy in enhancing adolescent sociality. The intent of this scholarly inquiry is to propose a specialized drama education program tailored for middle school students. This program is envisioned to be underpinned by a series of case studies in classroom settings, employing these modified youth play works as pivotal tools to reinforce sociality among adolescents. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing era marked by rapid societal transformation, the role of sociality during adolescence assumes an increasingly pivotal position. Specifically, the sociality of adolescents not only exerts a significant influence on the process of socialization as they transition to adulthood but also plays a formative role in shaping the culture of peer relationships within the educational milieu. This encompasses aspects such as the development of relationships with educators, active participation in learning endeavors, adherence to institutional norms, and the overarching evolution of interpersonal dynamics. Collectively, these elements are integral to the socialization process as adolescents navigate the path to adulthood. Particularly notable is the middle school phase characterized by a more heterogeneous environment compared to elementary education. Here, students encounter an expanded variety of academic disciplines and are subject to prolonged instructional periods. Consequently the requisite scope of sociality transcends mere rudimentary interpersonal interactions extending to a more comprehensive range of social competencies demanded across diverse academic subjects and activities. Additionally, the adaptation to peer relationships during this stage becomes a critical component of their social, emotional and behavioral development. The researcher, cognizant of the prevailing necessity and challenges, successfully elicited efficacious outcomes in augmenting sociality during adolescence through the implementation of an array of programs inclusive of a drama education program. The empirical evidence underscored the imperative for rejuvenating drama education initiatives especially considering the observed paucity of engagement in theatrical pursuits within the autonomous cultural and arts activities in schools. Historically, the Ministry of Education in South Korea has dedicated substantial efforts towards fostering individuals endowed with both creativity and moral fiber equipped to seamlessly navigate the fluid landscape of an ever-changing society. This overarching objective was prominently featured in the 2009 revised curriculum, which was geared towards the cultivation of creative talents, as well as in the 2015 revised curriculum, which placed a strong emphasis on developing competencies that mirror the varied demands of a dynamically transforming society. Within the framework of the 2022 revised curriculum, there is a sustained emphasis on the imperative for pedagogical innovation that nurtures the capacity to actively engage with societal transformations, in alignment with the competencies envisaged for future societies. This approach encompasses the fortification of competency-based education that is integrally connected to real-life experiences, with a primary focus on cultivating a proactive human ethos characterized by creativity and inclusiveness designated as fundamental competencies and objectives. In this context, the 2022 curriculum revision accentuates the vital role of foundational attributes in the augmentation of life-relevant competency education. Through an empathetic and collaborative educational approach it seeks to enhance inclusivity and comprehension. These objectives are closely associated with the essential competencies developed through drama education. The essence of drama education transcends the mere accomplishment of dramatic functions or the mastery of its techniques. It entails engaging learners in the comprehensive journey of drama education where collaboration and communication are pivotal, thereby facilitating the acquisition of social competencies and the amplification of sociality. The drama education program critically facilitates individual recognition of roles within communal contexts cultivates appropriate social relationships promotes cooperative and constructive communication, and necessitates the aptitude to adapt to a dynamically evolving society. Consequently, acknowledging the imperative for a diversified array of drama education programs an expansion of these initiatives is advocated. In alignment with this rationale, a pertinent youth play production was judiciously selected to serve the objectives of this investigation culminating in the formulation of a bespoke drama education curriculum. The research, conducted by the investigator who concurrently assumes the role of a drama pedagogue, was implemented with a cohort comprising 6 pupils from C Middle School in Gyeonggi-do and 28 pupils from G Middle School in Seoul. Each instructional session, extending for a duration of 90 minutes, was systematically executed over a span of 10 sessions. In an effort to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the augmentation in participants' sociality, a series of pre-study and post-study surveys were deployed. The ensuing data was meticulously scrutinized employing a mixed-methods research paradigm. Furthermore, to ascertain and reinforce the credibility and pedagogical soundness of the drama education program comprehensive feedback and critical reviews were sought from seasoned educational experts. This input was subsequently disseminated and discussed with the respective educational facilitators at the involved institutions. The findings and implications of this scholarly inquiry are summarized as follows. Firstly, drawing upon the thematic essence and societal reflections encapsulated in the youth play production the researcher adeptly foregrounded social issues through the lens of adolescent experience, discerning societal challenges as they pertain to the adolescent demographic. This perspective eschewed the conventional view of adolescents as societal problems, instead highlighting the societal context in which they exist. This nuanced approach demonstrated its efficacy in bolstering sociality during adolescence. Moreover, the integration of drama education within the realm of creative experiential activities in middle schools, as delineated in the revised 2022 curriculum, manifested discernible pedagogical impacts. This transcended the mere execution of drama's functional aspects, extending to the augmentation of sociality, inclusive of pivotal skills such as communicative, behavioral, emotional, and cognitive competencies. Secondly, the research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach utilizing a specifically designed sociality measurement instrument consisting of 20 closed-ended pre- and post-survey questions. The empirical data revealed an initial average rating of 3.14 on a 5-point scale prior to the introduction of the youth play drama education program. Subsequent to the program's conclusion a marked enhancement in sociality was observed with scores escalating to 3.30, signifying a substantial increment of 0.16 points. Further in-depth analysis, conducted via open-ended surveys and responses anchored in the participants' post-program experiential narratives elucidated positive shifts across seven pivotal dimensions intrinsic to adolescent sociality: community integration, self-awareness, autonomy, interpersonal interaction, empathy towards others, effective communication, and empathic engagement. Thirdly, the participants engaged in the drama education program exhibited significant advancements in their self-expression capabilities. Participation in the processes of rehearsing and enacting character roles within the production not only fostered both internal and external emotional empathy and communicative exchanges but also exerted a positive influence on their self-confidence. Consequently, through this research the investigator has successfully demonstrated that a drama education program employing the youth play production is effective in fostering sociality during adolescence. Moreover, in recognizing the critical importance of drama education, there exists an expectation for the formulation and implementation of varied and substantial drama education initiatives. These initiatives are to be incorporated within the ambit of creative experiential activities in secondary school curricula contributing to the ongoing enhancement and rejuvenation of drama education. This perspective underscores the commitment to expanding the pedagogical repertoire in a way that enriches the educational landscape and addresses the evolving developmental needs of adolescents.
