기능적 전기자극 치료은 무엇을 위해 적용되고 있는가? | 뇌손상 환자의 치료에 있어 수동적, 능동적 운동 치료와 더불어 환자의 기능적 운동 회복을 위한 기능적 전기자극 치료(functional electrical stimulation, FES)는 자세 유지에 중요한 수의적 근수축을 일으키거나 목적 있는 운동을 위한 조절된 기능적 근육활동의 회복을 촉진하기 위해 적용되고 있다.10,11 또한, 기능적 전기자극 치료는 편측부전마비를 가진 뇌손상 환자의 근력 강화, 근육의 재교육 및 강직의 감소를 위해 적용되고 있으며, 정적이거나 동적인 보조기구를 대신하여 환자의 기립 및 보행 훈련에 많이 적용되고 있다.12 현재 전기자극, 바이오피드백, 억제유도치료 등과 같은 외부적으로 제공되는 치료적 개입에 의한 뇌신경 가소성 및 재조직화에 대한 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있으며,12-14 기능적 전기자극 치료와 같은 손상된 근육을 직접적으로 자극하여 근육 활동을 향상시키고 근 재교육에 대한 영역별 뇌 신경학적 메커니즘과 이에 따른 운동 기능의 회복의 변화에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. |
