결혼이주여성들에게 있어서 무엇이 매우 중요하게 고려되어야 하는가? , 2008; KOSIS, 2009, 2011). 특히 결혼이주여성들이 주로 가임기에 있고, 이주동기가 ‘결혼’이며, 여성건강은 그 자신뿐만 아니라 자녀의 건강과 관련된다는 점을 고려해 볼 때, 이들이 임신, 출산, 산욕과 양육과정, 즉 ‘어머니가 되어가는 과정’에서의 건강은 매우 중요하게 고려되어야 할 것이다.
결혼이주여성들에게 우려되는 점은 무엇인가? 5% 수준에 불과하다(Kim, Hwang, Jang, Yoon, & Kang, 2008). 이는 결혼이주여성의 상당수가 결혼생활 및 언어, 문화에 대한 충분한 적응 없이 ‘어머니가 되어가는 경험’에 노출됨을 의미하므로 모성 및 아기에게 미치는 건강상의 문제에 대한 많은 우려를 갖게 한다.
