국내외 연구들이 뇌졸중 환자의 우울관련 요인을 확인하고 그 중재 방안을 탐색하기 위해 진행된 이유는? , 2007). 뇌졸중 이후의 우울은 매우 흔하며(Carter, 2004), Angelelli 등(2004)은 뇌졸중 후 우울감정의 발생률이 61%에 이르는 것으로 보고하고 있다. 실제로 우울은 신체적 기능에 부정적인 영향을 주며, 삶의 질, 사회활동의 저하를 초래하게 된다(Chau, Thompson, Twinn, Chang, & Woo, 2009; Teoh, Sims, & Milgrom, 2009). 또한 뇌졸중 후 우울은 환자의 사망률에 영향을 미치는 것으로 보고되었는데, 우울 증상이 없는 환자에 비해 10년 이내의 사망률이 3.4배 높은 것으로 보고되었다(Jordge, Robinson, Arndt, & Starkstein, 2003). 그로 인해 많은 국내외 연구들이 뇌졸중 환자의 우울관련 요인을 확인하고, 그 중재 방안을 탐색하기 위해 진행되었다.
