성공적인 정보탐색과 활용이 어느 때보다 중요해진 까닭은? 소비자가 필요한 정보를 선택하고 활용하는 과정에서 겪는 문제는 결과적으로 소비자의사결정의 질을 낮추는 문제로 이어진다. 유용한 정보의 획득과 활용이 어려워지면 일차적으로 소비자의 외적 정보탐색활동이 제한되고, 이는 이차적으로 의사결정의 불확실성을 가중시켜 소비자의사결정의 질을 떨어뜨리고 결과적으로 소비자의 후생복지수준에 영향을 미치게 된다[37]. 따라서 소비자의사결정의 질을 높이고 더 나아가 소비자의 소비생활의 질을 높이기 위해서는 성공적인 정보탐색과 활용이 그 어느 때보다 중요한 시기이다.
