제안 방법
김현선의 성매매 경험에 대한 설문지를 토대로, 성매매 중 겪을 수 있는 다양한 외상 경험을 측정하기 위해 직접 구성한 설문지이다[7]. 협박/구타/폭행과 같은 신체적 폭력, 성폭력, 산부인과계 질병, 고립/배신, 보호 경험의 총 5개 영역을 16문항 5점 척도로 구성하여 발생 빈도를 평정하도록 하였다.
대상 데이터
본 연구는 2012년 4월에서 9월에 걸쳐 서울 지역 3곳, 대전 1곳, 대구 1곳의 성매매 여성 쉼터에서 탈 성매매 후 보호를 받고 있는 쉼터 입소 여성을 대상으로 하였다.
자료가 수집된 성매매 여성 45명 중 답변 불성실로 3건이 누락된 42명이 분석 대상이 되었다. 비교 집단은 경기 지역 1곳, 서울 지역 고등학교 및 대학교, 대구 지역 사이버대학교 이렇게 총 3곳에서 자원한 학생 총 50명을 대상으로 자료 수집이 이루어졌으며 이중 남성 및 답변 불성실로 8건이 누락되어 총 42명의 일반인 자료가 수집되었다. 성매매 집단의 연령범위는 18세부터 40세로 평균 연령은 25.

우아미(2008)가 개발한 설문지로 이성관계 집착 정도를 측정하며, 외로움/불완전감, 거부 두려움, 질투심, 의심, 과민성의 5개 하위 요인으로 구성되어 있다. 외로움/불완전감은 파트너와 늘 함께 있기를 원하고 그럼으로써 자신을 완전하게 느끼거나 안정하다고 생각하는 것, 거부 두려움은 파트너에게 거절당하지 않을지 불안해하는 행동, 질투심은 파트너와 가까운 사람들에게 질투를 느끼며 파트너를 독점하고 싶어하는 행동, 의심은 파트너의 애정에 대한 불신, 과민성은 사랑하는 사람의 행동에매우 민감해서 나에 대한 애정을 확인하려는 것을 의미한다.
성능/효과
둘째, 성매매 집단의 아동기 외상과 이성관계 집착 정도 간의 상관분석 결과, ‘방임’이 외로움/불완전감, 거부/두려움, 질투, 의심, 과민의 5개 하위요인 모두와 유의한 상관을 보였고, ‘가족 내 비밀’이 의심을 제외한 외로움/불완전감, 거부/두려움, 질투, 과민의 4개 하위요인과 유의한 상관을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 아동기에 가족 중 아무도 관심을 두지 않고 혼자 시간을 보낸 성매매 여성일수록 쉽게 외로움을 느끼고, 이성에게 버림 받을까 두려움이 크고, 파트너의 행동을 수시로 확인하고, 다른 이성에게 질투심을 느끼며, 파트너를 생각하면 우울하고 불안해지는 경향이 높은 것으로 보인다.
마지막으로 아동기 외상경험이 성매매 집단과 일반인 집단 각각에서 이성관계 집착 정도에 어떤 상대적인 영향을 미쳤는지 회귀분석 결과, 성매매 집단의 경우, 아동기 외상경험의 10개 하위 요인 중 ‘방임’이 이성관계 집착 정도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 일반인 집단의 경우 ‘신체적 학대’가 유의한 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 구체적으로 살펴보면 성매매 여성은 아동기에 가족으로부터의 방임되었던 경험으로 인하여 이성관계에 집착하게 되고, 일반인 여성의 경우 아동기에 신체적 학대를 당했던 경험으로 인해 이성관계에 대한 거부나 관계맺기에 대한 두려움이 커진 것으로 결론지을 수 있다.
셋째, 성매매 여성이 아닌 일반인 집단의 아동기 외상과 이성관계 집착 정도 간의 상관을 분석한 결과, 아동기 외상 중 ‘가족 내 비밀’은 이성관계 집착 총점과 하위요인 중 ‘외로움/불완전감’, ‘거부 두려움’, ‘질투’, ‘과민’의 4개 하위요인과 유의한 상관을 보였으며, ‘신체적 학대’는 이성관계 집착의 하위요인 중 ‘외로움/불완전감’, ‘거부 두려움’, ‘과민’의 3개 하위요인과 유의한 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 아동기에 가족 내 비밀이 많거나 가족 안에 일어나는 일을 밖에서는 모르게 했던 경험이 있는 일반여성일수록, 외로움이 심하고 파트너가 떠날까봐 불안해하고, 파트너에게 끊임없이 사랑을 확인받고자 하고 자신만 생각해 주기를 바라는 경향이 높은 것으로 보인다.
도출된 연구결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 성매매 여성과 일반인 여성간의 간의 이성관계 집착을 비교한 결과 외로움/불완전감, 질투, 과민성에서는 차이가 없었지만 성매매 여성이 일반인 여성보다 ‘거절에 대한 두려움’과‘의심’이 유의하게 높았다. 이를 구체적으로 살펴보면 성매매 집단이 전체적으로는 이성관계 집착 정도가 일반인 집단과 큰 차이를 보이지는 않지만, 부분적으로 일반인보다 파트너를 생각하면 우울이나 불안하고 초조해지고, 파트너가 떠날까봐 두려워하는 마음이 크며, 파트너가 다른 이성을 만나는지 의심하여 매 시간 문자를 주고 받으려 하거나 휴대폰 문자 같은 것을 수시로 확인하는 경향이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다.
후속연구
넷째, 본 연구에서는 성매매에 대한 논의 대상이 여성에 국한되어 있는데 앞으로의 성매매 연구 대상은 남성 성매매자이나 동성끼리의 성매매를 하는 경우도 포함을 시켜, 남녀의 성차가 있는지도 확인해 봄으로써, 우리 사회에 존재하는 성매매의 전체적인 성격규명을 할 필요가 있는 것으로 보인다.
셋째, 이성관계는 일방적인 관계 아니라 두 사람 사이의 양방적인 관계인데, 본 연구에서는 상대방 남자의 특성에 대해 조사하지 않았고, 여성이 주관적으로 지각한 이성관계 집착 정도만을 측정하였다. 따라서 상대의 평가를 포함하여 이성관계에 대해 좀 더 객관적으로 평가할 필요가 있다.
첫째, 표본 수가 적고, 연령분포가 초기 성인기에 치우쳐 있으며 탈성매매 여성을 대상으로 연구가 진행되어 전체 성매매 여성 모집단을 충분히 대표하기 어려운 면이 있다. 또한 서울 3곳과 대전 1곳, 대구 1곳의 성매매 여성 쉼터를 대상으로 설문을 실시했기 때문에 대표성에 지역적 한계도 있으므로, 보다 광범위한 지역에서 다양한 연령대의 성매매 여성을 대상으로 표집하여 연구할 필요가 있다.
