This study sought to illuminate a moderating effect of mother's perception of father's involvement on the associations between mother's parenting efficacy and child's emotional regulation. The participants in this study comprised 292 mothers whose children were aged between 4 and 5. The children were attending child care centers or kindergartens located in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do province in Korea. The questionnaires on mother's parental efficacy, father's parental involvement, and their children's emotional regulation were distributed to mothers through their child care centers or kindergartens. The results indicated a significant correlation among the variables. Although mothers' parenting efficacy had relatively higher effects upon their children's emotional regulation than their fathers' involvement, the effect of a fathers' involvement was still significant. In particular, the fathers' involvement in leisure activities moderated the effects of the mothers' parenting efficacy on children's emotional comprehension and regulation(one of the sub-factors of emotional regulation).

본 연구에서는 아버지의 양육참여도, 어머니의 양육효능감, 유아의 정서조절력의 측정을 위해서 어머니가 다음에 제시된 도구들에 답하도록 하였다.

제안 방법

그 결과 두 개의 하위 변인 중 불안정/부정적 정서조절력에 대한 영향력은 유의하지 않았고(β = .04, n.s) 유아의 정서조절 및 이해에서만 유의한 결과(β = .21, p = .001)가 나타났으므로 유아의 정서조절력 중 하위변인인 ‘정서조절 및 이해’ 변인을 중심으로 조절효과를 살펴 보았다.

Table 5에는 어머니 양육효능감과 유아의 정서조절력의 하위변인인 정서조절 및 이해의 관계에서 아버지 양육참여도가 가지는 조절효과의 분석 결과를 제시하였다.
본 연구에서는 부모의 배경변인에 따른 어머니 양육효능감, 아버지 양육참여도 및 유아의 정서조절력 각각의 차이를 알아보기 위해서 F 검증을 실시하였다. 그 결과는 다음의 Table 2와 Table 3에 제시하였다.

이론/모형

어머니가 지각한 아버지의 양육참여도를 측정하기 위해 Bigner(1979), Baruch와 Barnett(1981), Lamb(1975)의 연구를 토대로 아버지 양육참여도 검사 도구를 제작한 Choi(1992)의 도구를 Kim(2005)이 수정·보완한 도구를 사용하였다.
어머니의 양육효능감의 측정을 위해서는 Meunier와 Roskam(2009)의 ‘Echelle Globale du Sentiment de Competence Parentals(EGSCP)’를 Sung과 Baek(2011)이 1∼7세 영유아를 자녀로 둔 우리나라 어머니의 양육효능감을 측정할 수 있도록 타당화한 한국판 양육효능감 척도(K-EGSCP)를 사용하였다.

성능/효과

가족 소득이 높을수록 어머니 양육효능감도 높은 것을 알 수 있었다. 가족 소득에 따른 어머니 양육효능감의 차이를 분석한 후 Scheffe 사후검증을 통해 각 집단 간 차이를 분석한 결과 가족 소득이 400만 원 이상인 집단은 300만 원 미만인 집단과 300만 원 이상 400만 원 미만인 집단과 모두 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 어머니의 연령, 교육수준, 가족의 수입에 따른 유아의 정서조절력에 대한 차이는 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다.

Cho와 Chung(2004)의 연구에서는 아버지의 양육참여 중 생활지도와 학습지도만이 아동이 스트레스 상황에서 행동과 정서를 적절하게 처리하는 능력에 대한 유의한 설명변인으로 보고되었는데 이는 유아가 일상 속에서 경험하는 스트레스 상황에서 아버지와의 지속적인 상호 작용과 지도가 자녀에게 중요한 역할을 한다는 것으로 설명되었다. 본 연구에서는 아버지의 양육참여의 영역 중 여가활동참여도 만이 유의한 결과를 보였고, 연구 대상이 비취업모의 비율이 많은 것으로 미루어보아 연구대상 아버지가 일상적이고 지속적인 상호작용 보다는 여가활동과 같은 단편적인 양육에 참여하는 것으로 예측 할 수 있다.여가활동과 같은 상황에서는 유아가 분노를 경험하거나 공격적인 상황에 처할 가능성이 많지 않기 때문에 유아의 불안정/부정적 정서조절이나 정서처리에 필요한 아버지의 지도나 상호작용이 적어 조절역할을 하기에 충분하지 못했을 것으로 추론할 수 있다.
셋째, 아버지가 자녀와의 여가활동에 참여하는 것은 어머니의 양육효능감이 유아의 정서조절의 하위변인인 정서조절 및 이해에 미치는 영향에서 조절효과를 가진다. 이는 아버지의 여가 활동 참여도가 높을수록 어머니의 전반적인 양육효능감이 높아진다는 연구결과와(Kim, 2011), 아버지의 여가활동의 참여가 높을수록 어머니의 양육부담이 줄어 어머니 양육스트레스가 감소했다는 연구(Lee & Min, 2007)에 의해서도 뒷받침 된다.
유아 정서조절 및 이해에 대한 위계적 회귀 분석 결과 어머니의 양육효능감을 투입한 1단계에서의 설명력은 27.3%로 나타났고(β = .52, p < .001), 아버지 양육참여도(β = .29, p < .001)를 추가로 투입한 모형 2단계에서의 설명력은 33.8%로 유의미한 영향력을 보여주었다.
이 척도는 총 24문항이며, 정서조절 및 이해(9문항)와 불안정/부정적 정서조절(15문항)의 두 개 하위요인으로 구성되어 있다. 정서조절 및 이해의 점수가 높을수록 자신의 마음을 조절하고 타인의 감정을 이해하는 능력이 높음을 의미하고, 불안정/부정적 요인의 점수가 높을수록 분노유발 및 공격적인 상황에서 자신의 기분변화에 따라 정서적 강도를 적절하게 조절하지 못하는 것을 나타내지만, 본 연구에서는 불안정/부정적 요인의 점수는 역채점하여 분석하여, 높은 점수일수록 불안정/부정적 정서조절을 능숙하게 하는 것으로 분석하였다. 이 척도는 5점 Likert식 척도로 평정하게 되어있으며 유아의 어머니가 응답 하였고 Cronbach’s α는 .
이에 대한 Scheffe 사후검증을 실시한 결과 고졸 이하 집단은 전문대졸 이상 대학교졸 이하 집단과 대학원졸 이상 집단과의 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 아버지의 교육수준이 높을수록 아버지의 양육참여도도 높아지는 양상을 보였다.

이러한 제한점에도 불구하고 본 연구는 다음과 같은 의의를 가진다. 첫째, 유아의 정서조절력에 미치는 어머니의 양육효능감과 아버지의 양육참여도의 상대적 영향력을 분석함으로써 자녀 양육에서 아버지의 양육참여도 또한 중요한 변인임을 확인하였으며 아버지의 양육참여는 배우자에게 중요한 사회적 지원체계임을 제시하였다. 둘째, 어머니의 양육효능감이 유아의 정서조절 및 이해 능력에 미치는 영향에서 아버지의 여가활동 참여도가 가지는 조절효과를 확인하였는데 이는 가족 전체의 기능적인 시각에서 변인들을 연구하여 아버지의 자녀 양육참여가 가져오는 가족 전체에 대한 영향력에 대한 시사점을 가져온다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

후속연구

둘째, 본 연구에서는 아버지의 양육참여도를 어머니가 지각한 아버지의 양육참여도로 측정하여 어머니가 대신 보고하도록 하였으나 아버지 스스로가 지각한 양육참여 정도와 어머니가 지각한 정도에는 차이가 있을 수 있다. 그렇기 때문에 추후 연구에서는 아버지가 보고한 양육참여도도 연구에 포함시켜 연구를 한다면 더 풍부한 연구가 될 수 있을 것이다. 더 나아가 아버지의 양육효능감과 같은 아버지의 양육에 대한 신념도 연구하여 아버지 양육이 배우자나 자녀뿐만 아니라 자신에게 미치는 영향에 대해서도 알 수 있을 것이고 아버지 양육참여를 더욱 질 높은 방향으로 이끌어내기 위한 구체적인 방안을 마련하는 데에도 도움이 될 것이다.
그렇기 때문에 추후 연구에서는 아버지가 보고한 양육참여도도 연구에 포함시켜 연구를 한다면 더 풍부한 연구가 될 수 있을 것이다. 더 나아가 아버지의 양육효능감과 같은 아버지의 양육에 대한 신념도 연구하여 아버지 양육이 배우자나 자녀뿐만 아니라 자신에게 미치는 영향에 대해서도 알 수 있을 것이고 아버지 양육참여를 더욱 질 높은 방향으로 이끌어내기 위한 구체적인 방안을 마련하는 데에도 도움이 될 것이다.
첫째, 본 연구는 서울․경기지역에서 표집이 이루어져 한 지역에 국한된 표본을 바탕으로 이루어졌고, 참여한 어머니 중 비취업모의 비율이 취업모의 비율보다 컸는데 이는 아버지 양육참여에 대한 필요성이 상대적으로 적게 나타나게 된 원인일 수 있다. 보다 정확한 연구를 위해서는 다양한 표집을 할 수 있는 노력이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 본 연구에서는 아버지의 양육참여도를 어머니가 지각한 아버지의 양육참여도로 측정하여 어머니가 대신 보고하도록 하였으나 아버지 스스로가 지각한 양육참여 정도와 어머니가 지각한 정도에는 차이가 있을 수 있다.
본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 몇 가지 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구는 서울․경기지역에서 표집이 이루어져 한 지역에 국한된 표본을 바탕으로 이루어졌고, 참여한 어머니 중 비취업모의 비율이 취업모의 비율보다 컸는데 이는 아버지 양육참여에 대한 필요성이 상대적으로 적게 나타나게 된 원인일 수 있다. 보다 정확한 연구를 위해서는 다양한 표집을 할 수 있는 노력이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

	어머니의 양육효능감은 무엇인가?	특히 아버지의 양육참여도는 어머니의 양육효능감 과 관련이 깊다. 어머니가 자녀를 양육함에 있어서 자신의 능력에 대한 기대와 믿음을 의미하는 양육 효능감은(Perry, Perry, & Rasmussen, 1986) 어머 니가 행하는 실제적인 양육 행동이나 태도에 영 향을 주는 자녀 양육에 대한 근원적인 이해와 신 념이라고 할 수 있다(Jhonston & Mash, 1989).
	어머니의 양육효능감은 아버지의 양육참여도와 유의미한 정적인 상관관계가 있음이 많은 연구에서 밝혀져 왔는데 구체적으로 어떤 관계가 있는가?	이에 배우 자의 지지가 어머니의 양육에 영향을 미친다는 것을 밝힌 선행연구들은 어머니가 아버지의 양 육참여에 대해 느끼는 심리적인 지각을 살펴보 았다(Belsky, 1984; Brunelli, Wasserman, Rauhm, Alvardo, & Caradallo, 1995; Goldberg, 1990). 구체적으로 아버지가 자녀 양육에 적극적으로 참여하게 되면 어머니가 자녀 양육에 대해 가지 는 부담을 감소시켜주어 어머니의 양육효능감 을 높여준다는 것이 제시되었으며(Kwon, 2009; Lee & Moon, 2011), 아버지가 자녀 양육에 참 여하는 정도가 높을수록 어머니는 양육 스트레 스를 적게 지각하여 어머니가 스스로 자녀를 양 육함에 있어서 보다 자신감을 가지게 되어 높은 양육효능감을 보이는 것을 시사하는 연구결과 가 보고되기도 하였다(Jeon, 1996; Kim & Lee, 2005). 본 연구에서는 이러한 아버지의 양육참 여가 어머니의 양육효능감에 어떻게 영향을 미 치는지를 밝힌 연구에서 한 단계 더 나아가서 유아 발달과의 관계 및 영향에 대해서도 함께 살펴보고자 하였다.
