본 연구는 유아의 기질과 부모의 양육행동과 관련하여 유아의 문제행동변화를 종단적 탐색연구를 통해 그 시사점을 모색하고자 연구하였는데 결과를 보면 1970~1990년도 전체 41개 요인에서 1990~2000년대 62개요인 2000~2010년에 93개 요인으로 나타내 초기 연구에 비해 관련 영향요인이 2000년대 이후 두 배 이상 증가된 것으로 나타내 그만큼 세분화되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 관련요인의 비중에 있어서도 부모의 도덕적 사고관이 가장 높고 그리고 유아에 대한 부정적 사고나 정서가 더 높아 유아자신의 기질이나 태도보다 부모의 유아에 대한 양육 태도에 따른 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 유아의 문제행동 영향요인과 원인 규명에 있어 초기연구들은 유아 개인에 정신 건강적 측면에서 문제행동의 원인을 찾으려는 경향이 높았으나 2000년대 이후 들어 유아 개인뿐만 아니라 가족, 관계, 가정환경, 어린이집 이용환경이 급격히 증가하면서 사회적 환경과 또래, 교사관계 등의 비중이 높아져 이에 따른 대체 자원 또한 시대적 환경에 따라 달리 적용되어야 할 것을 시사한 것으로 평가할 수 있다.

유아의 문제행동을 외현화문제와 내면화문제로 정의하시오 정태희와 박경자[4]도 유아의 문제행동을 사회 및 정서 발달상에 나타나는 내면화된 또는 외면화된 역기능을 지칭하는 것으로, 유아에게 문제 행동은 흔히 나타나며 이 문제들은 그 종류나 정도에 있어 매우 다양함을 주장한다. 이와 관련하여 Achenbach와 Edelbrock[5]은 유아기의 문제행동을 내면화문제와 외현화 문제로 구분하고, 내면화 문제는 자신의 행동을 지나치게 억제하거나 자신을 적절히 표현하지 못하는 정서적인 문제행동으로 외로움, 우울, 두려움, 위축, 불안 등 자기지향적 행동을 초래한다고 하였다. 즉 유아기에 내면화 문제행동을 보이는 유아는 슬픔에 잠기거나, 우울하거나, 위축되거나 수줍음이 심하고 공포감이나 환상에 빠지는 행동을 보이기 쉽다. 반면, 외현화 문제는 유아가 자신의 행동을 적절히 통제하지 못하여 발생하는 문제를 갖고 있는 유아로서 공격성, 과잉해동, 충동성, 비행 등 외부로 명확하게 나타나는 행동을 말한다. 외현화 문제행동을 겪는 유아는 다른 유아를 공격하거나 괴롭혀 그들의 행동이 다른 유아들에게 영향을 주기 때문에 쉽게 드러난다[6]. 그리고 유아기의 많은 문제행동은 외현화 문제와 내면화 문제가 혼재되어 나타나기 때문에 이를 구분하는데 어려움을 갖는다[2].
유아기는 어떠한 시기인가? 유아기는 타인에 대한 지각을 발달시키며, 사회적 기술을 습득하는 중요한 시기이다. 이 시기는 유아에 적절한 사회적 기술을 발달시키고, 정서적으로 안정되는 것은 물론 이후 성장, 발달 과정의 기초가 된다.
