본 연구는 정보취약계층인 노인 중 대도시 여성노인의 정보화에 대한 일반적 인식, 인터넷 이용 이유와 태도 및 인터넷 비이용 이유와 태도 등 정보기술 이용 행태와 태도에 대한 탐색적 연구이다. 서울시 소재 노인복지관에 다니는 60세 이상 노인을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여, 여성노인 343명의 자료를 SPSS 21.0을 사용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 여성노인의 인터넷 이용률은 높은 편이었으며, 연령 등 인구사회학적 특성에 따라 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 전체적으로 여성노인의 정보화 인지도와 기대 등 정보기술에 대한 태도는 긍정적이었다. 셋째, 정보기술 이용자의 이용 동기는 실용적 측면 외에 심리적, 정서적 이유도 컸으며, 정보기술이용 만족도는 비교적 높았다. 마지막으로, 정보기술 비이용자의 경우, 정보화나 정보기술에 대해 무관심층이 많았고, 정보기술 이용에 대해 소극적이었다. 정보기술 비이용 불만족도는 보통 수준이었으나, 정보기술 이용에 대한 기대는 비교적 긍정적이었다. 이 연구결과는 여성노인과 노년기 정보격차와 정보기술의 이용에 관한 이해의 폭을 넓히고, 나아가 노인 정보화 및 노인복지 현장에서 노인, 특히 여성노인을 대상으로 한 프로그램과 정책개발에 기초자료로 활용되길 기대한다.

The study was an exploratory research on the awareness of informatization and attitudes to information technology (IT) and its use among elderly women in a metropolitan area. The questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data on IT use or non-use of elderly women aged 60 or older in senior welfare centers in Seoul, Korea. The data on 343 cases were analysed using SPSS 21.0. As a result, the rate of internet use was relatively high and different according to socio-demographic factors, such as age. The elderly women's attitudes like the levels of awareness and expectation of informatization were positive. Elderly women learned to use IT for psychological, emotional reasons as well as for practical ones, and the satisfaction level of IT use was relatively high. Finally, most IT non-users were indifferent and ignorant about IT use. In addition, the dissatisfaction level of IT non-use was normal, but elderly women had a relatively positive expectation of IT use in the future. This study may contribute to understanding the diverse pictures of IT use and the digital divide in old age, and assist in the development of practical programs and policies for the informatization and welfare for older adults.

대상 데이터

넷째, 정보기술을 이용하지 않는 여성노인의 경우, 정보화나 정보기술에 대한 태도는 소극적이었으나, 정보기술 이용에 대해서는 비교적 긍정적으로 기대하고 있었다. 여성노인들이 정보기술을 이용하지 않는 주된 이유는 관련 정보기술에 대한 이해, 이용방법 등과 같은 정보와 지식의 부족으로 나타났다.
둘째, 서울 여성노인의 경우, 정보화에 대한 일반적인 인식과 태도는 대체로 긍정적이었다. 여성노인의 정보화에 관한 인지도는 중간이상 수준으로 비교적 낮은 편이나, 정보화에 대한 기대와 전망은 매우 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 여성노인 중 정보기술 이용자의 경우 연령이 높아질수록 정보기술 이용률이 낮아졌다. 정보기술을 배우게 된 동기는 주로 실용적 측면 이외에 심리적 정서적 요인이 크게 작용하였으며, 정보기술 이용에 대한 만족도는 실용적 측면 뿐만 아니라 심리적, 정서적 측면에서 긍정적으로 평가하였다.
연구 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 대도시 서울의 여성노인들의 정보기술 이용여부는 연령, 건강상태, 학력 등 인구 사회학적 특성에 따라 차이를 보였다. 이는 일반적인 정보기술 이용행태와 유사한 결과이다.

후속연구

이러한 연구의 한계점을 보완하기 위하여 조사 대상을 전체 서울지역 노인을 대상으로 확대하거나, 성별 차이의 이해를 명확히 이해하기 위한 남성노인과 여성노인 간 성별 차이에 대한 비교분석, 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 집단별 차이, 도시-농촌지역 간 차이 비교분석 등 보다 심층적인 후속 연구가 요망된다.
