겉으로 잘 나타나지 않는 방식인 관계적 공격성을 보이는 아동에게 나타나는, 외현적 공격성과 대비되는 발현 형태는? 구체적으로 관계적 공격성(relational aggression)이란 소문 퍼뜨리기나 또래 집단에서 소외시키는 행동 등과 같이 겉으로 잘 나타나지 않는 방식으로 또래 관계를 손상시킬 수 있는 형태의 공격성을 의미한다(Crick & Grotpeter, 1995). 다른 사람을 때리는 행동과 같은 신체적 행동이나 위협하기 등과 같은 언어적인 공격을 포함하는 외현적 공격성(overt aggression) 과는 달리 관계적 공격성을 보이는 아동들은 비밀을 누설하 거나 자신이 말한 대로 하지 않으면 더 이상 관계를 유지하지 않겠다고 협박하는 등 관계에 해를 입히는 문제를 보인다(Crick, Bigbee, & Howes, 1996; French, Jansen, & Pidada, 2002; Marshall, Arnold, Rolon-Arroyo, & Griffith, 2015).
