LCA는 원료취득에서부터 제품 생산, 운송, 사용 및 폐기까지의 제품의 전 과정에서 환경에 미치는 영향을 평가하는 방법인데 다양한 제품, 공정, 활동과 관련된 환경적 부담을 사용된 물질 및 에너지 그리고 환경에 배출된 오염물질들의 규명을 통하여 정량화하고 환경배출의 영향을 평가하는 과정을 의미한다(Rebitzer& Buxmann, 2005). LCA는 친환경 제품 개발에 필요한 것을 만족시키기 위해 수행되는데 LCA를 진행하려면 다양한 기업들 사이에서 대량의 데이터 수집과 공유가 필요하다(Moreno etal.
TBL이란? 수명주기관리 관점에서 TBL의 환경적 관점은 전과정 환경영향평가(LCA: Environmental Lifecycle Assessment), 경제적 관점은 전과정 경제영향평가(LCC: Economic Lifecycle Assessment/ Lifecycle Costing), 사회적 관점은 전과정 사회영향평가(SLCA: Social Lifecycle Assessment)로 평가된다(Gmelin & Seuring, 2014b; Klöpffer, 2003). TBL은 기업이 환경적으로 건전하며, 경제적으로 생존가능하고, 사회적으로 책임을 갖는 조화로운 노력을 하는 것이다(Elkington, 1997). 환경적인 것은 환경 정책, 친환경적 경영, 환경적 성과 등으로, 경제적인 것은 조직구성원의 준법, 재무적정성, 위기관리능력, 고객 및 협력업체, 직원 등으로 평가될 수 있다.
