조모에게 있어서 돌봄만족은 어떠한 영향을 주는가? 돌봄만족은 손자녀 돌보는 일을 통해서 자신의 가치를 발견하거나 보람을 느끼는 등 돌봄에 대한 긍정적인 자기평가를 의미한다(Orbell, Hopkins, & Gillies, 1993). 손자녀 돌봄에 대한 조모의 개인적인 만족감이나 기대수준은 그 역할을 수행하는 동력이 된다. 조모가 양육자로서 의미를 깨달을 때 자신의 역할을 안정적으로 수행하게 되며(Morrow-Kondos, Weber, Cooper, & Hesser, 1997), 양육으로 인한 스트레스 상황을 스스로 극복하고 만족감을 가질 때 손자녀에게 심리적 안정감을 줄 수 있다 (Waldrop & Weber, 2001). Chung 등(2015)은 조모 스스로 자신의 역할에 가치를 부여할 때 역할수행 정도가 높아지며, 돌봄만족에 대한 조모 자신의 평가가 조모역할수행에 긍정적으로 기여함을 밝히고 있다.
