임상 증례와 관련 서양의학에서 사용되는 가이드라인들은 무엇이 있는가? 서양의학에서는 임상 논문의 질을 향상시키기 위해서, 다양한 형식의 연구보고에 있어서 반드시 포함되어야 할 내용들을 제시하고 있으며, 이를 분야별 특성을 감안한 체크리스트(checklist) 또는 가이드라인(guideline)의 형식으로 강제하고 있다. 무작위 대조 연구 분야의 CONSORT(Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials), 관찰 연구의 STROBE(Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology), 체계적 문헌 고찰 및 메타 분석의 PRISMA(Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses), 진단 정확도에 대한 연구의 STARD(Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies), 관찰 연구에 대한 메타 분석에서의 MOOSE(Meta-analyses Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology)가 현재 적극적으로 도입되고 있는 가이드라인이다5,6. 증례보고(Case report)에 있어서도 전문가의 합의를 통해 ‘증례 보고를 위한 보고 지침(CAse REport guidelines, CARE 지침)’이 확립(2013년)되었으며, 지속적으로 개정, 보완(2017년)되고 있다7.
