아카이브 전시는 아카이브의 가치를 높이고 이용자의 관심 및 긍정적인 이미지를 높이는데 기여하는 아카이브의 중요한 업무 중 하나이지만, 아직까지도 활성화가 되지 못하고 있다. 최근 기록콘텐츠를 이용하여 일방적인 정보전달식의 아카이브 전시에서 벗어난 이용자의 관심과 이해를 이끌어낼 수 있는 새로운 전시방안을 시도하고 모색하는 움직임이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 문화유산 기관의 전시 사례들을 종합 분석하여 기록콘텐츠를 활용한 아카이브 전시 활성화 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 기록콘텐츠를 통하여 기록에 대한 이해와 활용을 증진하는 방안에 초점을 두고, 본 연구에서 제안한 아카이브 전시프로그램 개발 전략은 3-way 콘텐츠 기반 전시, 체험 기반 전시, 디지털 환경 기반의 아카이브 전시이다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 이용자의 관심과 이해를 이끌어낼 수 있는 아카이브 전시프로그램 설계에 도움이 될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

최근의 전시동향을 통해 아카이브 자료에 가시화 되고 있는 전시방법은 무엇인가? 더욱이 최근의 전시동향은 이용자에게 일방 적으로 보여주는 전시유형을 벗어나 문화적인 경험, 감동과 즐거움을 제공하는 전시가 강조 되고 있다. 이에 따라 아카이브 자료를 기존의 방식으로 전시하는 것을 탈피하여 디지털 기술을 사용하여 전시하는 방법과 디지털 기록콘텐츠를 기반으로 한 온라인 전시 방법이 이제 가시화되고 있다. 이미 1995년 국제박물관위원회 (ICOM)에서는 박물관 교육 및 전시의 사회적 역할을 인터넷 공간에서도 박물관이 시행할 것을 권장하였고(우동희, 2010), 최근에는 박물관이나 역사관 또는 기록관에서도 그 기관들이 소장한 콘텐츠를 활용하여 디지털 기술을 이용한 전시뿐만 아니라 온라인 전시를 제공하고 있다.
아카이브 전시와 미술관 전시의 차이점은 무엇인가? 그러나 아카이브 전시는 미술관이나 박물관에서 제공되는 전시와 개념과 방식에서 뚜렷한 차이점을 가지고 있다. 미술관의 전시는 미학적인 감상을 위하여 또 유물이나 문화생활을 전시하는 박물관 전시는 교육적/역사적 이해를 위해 이루어진다면, 아카이브 전시는 메시지 전달에 초점을 맞춘다는 점에서 다른 기관의 전시와 다르다고 볼 수 있다. 아카이브 전시는 실물을 통한 감성적 자극과 역사, 사실정보를 제공함으로써 이용자들에게 기록물의 의미를 전달할 수 있는 확실한 방법이라 할 수 있다(김다운, 2017).
