본 연구는 청소년의 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응간의 구조적 관계를 살펴봄으로써 청소년의 건전한 스마트폰 이용에 유용한 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 B지역에 위치한 초·중·고등학생들 중 스마트폰을 사용하고 있는 학생 900명을 대상으로 2014년 9월부터 10월까지 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문은 총 891부가 수거되었고 불성실하게 응답한 설문 25부를 제외한 866부를 분석에 활용하였다. 통계분석 프로그램으로는 SPSS 20.0과 Amos 18.0을 활용하였으며 연구가설을 검증하기 위하여 구조방정식모형을 적용하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응의 관계는 유의하지 않았다. 둘째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 사회적 지지의 관계는 유의한 영향력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 자기통제력의 관계에서도 유의한 영향력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 청소년의 사회적 지지와 자기통제력 모두 학교적응에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응의 관계에서 사회적지지 및 자기통제력은 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 청소년들의 학교적응력을 높이기 위해서는 자기통제력을 확대시키고, 가족관계의 친밀성과 상호지지를 확장하면서 사회적 지지체계를 확고히 하는 노력이 필요하다.

The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze through structural relationship analysis the relationship between excessive smartphone use by adolescents and school adaption. A questionnaire was administered to 866 elementary, middle and high school students who are using smartphones SEM was applied to the analysis with the following results. First, the relationship between excessive smartphone use and school adaptation was not significant. Second, the relationship between social support and excessive smartphone use had significant influence. Third, there is a significant influence in the relationship between self-control and excessive smartphone use. Fourth, social support and self-control of adolescents had a direct influence on school adaptation. Fifth, social support and self-control mediate the relationship between smartphone overuse and school adaptation. Therefore, increasing the adaptability of adolescents requires efforts to firm social support system by expanding autonomous sense or self-control personally and mutual support in the family.

본 연구에서는 청소년의 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응 간의 관계에서 사회적 지지와 자기통제력이 매개효과를 가질 것으로 가정하였다. 이러한 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 본 연구에서는 Sobel(1982)[91] 검증을 통해 매개 변수의 유의성을 검증하였다.

제안 방법

본 연구는 청소년의 사회적 지지를 측정하기 위해 Dubow와 Ullman(1989)[88]이 개발하고 한미현 (1996)[20]이 검증한 척도를 본 연구의 목적에 맞게 재수정하여 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 사회적 지지를 한미 현의 분류를 바탕으로 가족지지, 또래지지, 교사지지의 3개의 하위요인으로 나누어 총 24문항으로 측정하였다.

이러한 선행연구를 토대로 본 연구에서는 학교적응을 학교환경적응, 학교교사적응, 학교수업적응, 학교친구적응, 학교생활적응으로 구분하여 살펴보고자 한다.
청소년의 스마트폰 과다사용을 측정하기 위해 고성자(2012)[86]와 한국정보화진흥원(2011)[22]이 개발한 도구를 수정, 보완하여 사용하였다. 스마트폰 과다사용은 강박적 집착⋅의존 6문항, 금단 6문항, 생활장애 6문항, 내성 5문항으로, 총 23문항으로 구성하였다.

대상 데이터

본 연구의 연구대상은 B지역에 위치한 초․중․고등학생들 중 현재 스마트폰을 사용하고 있는 학생이다. 표집방법은 연구모집단을 성별(남, 여) 및 학년별(초등5, 초등6, 중1, 중2, 중3, 고1, 고2)로 할당하여 임의 표집하는 방식을 선택하였다.
본 연구의 자료 수집은 현장에서 바로 수거하는 방식을 이용하였으며, 사전에 부산시 소재 20여개 초, 중, 고등학교에 설문조사에 대한 설명을 한 후 동의를 한 최종 9개 학교에서 설문조사를 진행하였다. 설문조사 진행은 설문에 도움을 주기로 한 학교를 본 연구자가 직접 찾아가 연구의 목적과 응답방법에 대한 설명을 한 후 진행하였고, 학생들이 설문지에 직접 기입하도록 하였다.
설문지는 총 900부를 배포하였고, 이중 회수된 설문지는 891부였으며 응답이 불성실한 설문지 25부를 제외한 866부가 최종분석에 사용되었다.

데이터처리

또한 측정모형을 분석한 뒤 각 변인들이 어떠한 경로로 학교적응에 영향을 미치는지 확인하기 위해서는 구조 모형의 적합도와 요인부하량을 검증하였다. 그리고 스마트폰 의존, 사회적지지, 자기통제력, 학교적응 간의 직접 및 간접효과를 분석하기 위해 Sobel 검증을 실시하여 통계적 유의성을 검증하였다.
0을 이용하여 측정변인의 평균, 표준편차, 왜도, 첨도를 산출하였다. 다음으로 구조모형의 적합도는 상대적 적합도 지수인 비교부합치 (Comparative Fit Index: CFI), 비표준부합치(Tucker -Lewis Index: TLI), 표준부합치(Normed Fit Index:NFI), 절대적 적합도 지수(Root Mean Square Error of Approximation: RMSEA)를 이용하여 평가하였다.
먼저, 기술통계 분석은 SPSS 20.0을 이용하여 측정변인의 평균, 표준편차, 왜도, 첨도를 산출하였다. 다음으로 구조모형의 적합도는 상대적 적합도 지수인 비교부합치 (Comparative Fit Index: CFI), 비표준부합치(Tucker -Lewis Index: TLI), 표준부합치(Normed Fit Index:NFI), 절대적 적합도 지수(Root Mean Square Error of Approximation: RMSEA)를 이용하여 평가하였다.
본 연구에서는 구조방정식 모형의 분석을 실시하기 전에 이를 위한 가정이 충족되었는지를 확인하기 위하여 다변량 정규분포성(multi-variate normality)을 검토하였다. 관련 관측변수의 다변량 정규분포성을 확인한 결과는 Table 2와 같다.

이론/모형

본 연구에서 학교적응을 측정하기 위해 김용래(2000)[87] 가 개발한 척도를 사용하였다. 하위요인은 학교환경적응, 학교교사적응, 학교수업적응, 학교친구적응, 학교생활적응으로 구성되어 있다.
본 연구에서는 청소년의 자기통제력을 측정하기 위해 Gottfredson와 Hirschi(1990)[89]가 개발하고, 김현숙 (1998)[65]이 번안한 척도를 사용하였다. 설문문항은 총 20문항으로 구성되어 있고, 설문내용은 1점은 ‘전혀 아니다’로 5점은 ‘매우 그렇다’로 구성된 5점 Likert 척도 측정하였다.

성능/효과

검증결과 사회적 지지와 자기통제력은 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응 간의 관계에서 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해 스마트폰 과다사용이 사회적 지지를 매개로 하여 학교적응에 영향을 미치고 있으며 (Z=11.
넷째, 청소년의 사회적 지지와 자기통제력은 학교적응에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 청소년이 가정과 주위 관계의 지지체계를 통해 획득하는 다양한 지식이나 경험, 도움 등을 토대로 성장하고 발전해나간다는 선행연구[99][100] 결과를 지지한다.
다섯째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 청소년의 학교적응의 관계에서 사회적지지 및 자기통제력의 매개효과는 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 선행연구[79-82]의 흐름과도 일치하는 것으로, 청소년에게 자아정체감은 생활에 적응하고, 안정감을 유지하며 자신을 긍정적으로 평가하는데 긍정적인 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 청소년의 사회적 지지의 관계는 유의한 영향력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 세부적으로 살펴본 결과, 친구지지를 제외한 교사지지와 가족지지가 스마트폰 과다사용에 의해 직접적인 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.
마지막으로, 통제변인 중에는 학년 변인이 학교적응에 유의미한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 학년이 낮을수록 학교적응 수준이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.
먼저, 직접효과에서 스마트폰 과다사용은 사회적 지지 및 자기통제력에 직접효과가 있으며, 사회적 지지(β= -.529))보다 자기통제력(β= -.662)에 상대적 영향력을 더 많이 행사하는 것으로 나타났다.
사회적 지지는 학교적응에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 자기통제력 또한 학교적응에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이중 자기통제력(β= .
셋째, 스마트폰 과다사용과 청소년의 자기통제력의 관계에서도 유의한 영향력이 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 이는 자기통제력의 정도에 따라 가상공간의 의존적 사용이 영향을 받는다는 이계원(2001)[98]의 주장을 지지한다.
연구모형에 기초한 구조모형의 경로계수를 살펴보면, 스마트폰 과다사용은 사회적지지(β=-.529, p<.001)와 자기통제력(β=-.662, p<.001)에 유의미한 영향을 미치며, 사회적지지가 학교적응(β=.349, p<.001), 자기통제력이 학교적응(β=.665, p<.001)에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 스마트폰 과다사용이 높을수록 사회적 지지와 자기통제력이 낮아지며, 사회적 지지와 자기통제력이 높을수록 학교적응 수준이 높아지는 것을 볼수 있다.
이상과 같이 본 연구에서는 스마트폰 과다사용이 높을수록 청소년의 자기통제력과 사회적 지지는 낮아지는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 따라서 청소년들의 자기통제력을 높이기 위해서는 스마트폰 과다사용 예방 프로그램이 개발되어야 할 것이다.
이상의 논의를 통해서 볼 때, 청소년들의 스마트폰 과다사용은 학교적응에 부정적인 영향을 미치며, 사회적 지지와 자기통제력은 학교적응을 예측하는 요인임과 동시에 청소년의 학교적응에 영향을 매개하는 요인으로 작용할 수 있음을 알 수 있다.

본 연구는 스마트폰 과다사용과 청소년의 학교적응의 관계에 대한 구조적인 분석을 시도하였으나 청소년의 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응 이외의 다양한 변수들이 구조적 관계에 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 연구변인상의 한계점이 있다. 따라서 향후 연구에서는 학교적응과 스마트폰 과다사용의 관계를 분석함에 있어 다양한 변인들을 고려할 필요성이 제기된다. 또한 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응에 영향을 미치는 개인적 요인 및 환경적 요인에 대한 보다 다양한 연구가 필요하다.
따라서 사회복지적인 관점에서 스마트폰 과다사용과 관련한 다양한 사회현상을 파악하고 이를 예방할 수 있는 방안을 마련해야 할 것이다. 또한 본 연구는 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응의 관계를 파악하기 위해 양적연구를 중심으로 진행하였으므로, 향후 연구에서는 질적 연구 병행을 통해 연구의 관찰 폭을 넓힐 필요성이 있다.
따라서 향후 연구에서는 학교적응과 스마트폰 과다사용의 관계를 분석함에 있어 다양한 변인들을 고려할 필요성이 제기된다. 또한 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응에 영향을 미치는 개인적 요인 및 환경적 요인에 대한 보다 다양한 연구가 필요하다. 특히, 초, 중, 고등학생들에게 스마트폰은 일상생활에서 빼놓을 수 없는 중요한 매체로 자리 잡고 있는 바, 스마트폰의 매체적 속성이나 이용 동기 면에 있어서 심층적이고 다양한 연구가 뒷받침 되어야 할 것이다.
본 연구는 스마트폰 과다사용과 청소년의 학교적응의 관계에 대한 구조적인 분석을 시도하였으나 청소년의 스마트폰 과다사용과 학교적응 이외의 다양한 변수들이 구조적 관계에 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 연구변인상의 한계점이 있다. 따라서 향후 연구에서는 학교적응과 스마트폰 과다사용의 관계를 분석함에 있어 다양한 변인들을 고려할 필요성이 제기된다.
