Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of adolescent sexual media literacy and sexual permissiveness on gender sensitivity and to provide evidences useful in developing a sex education program that would promote gender sensitivity among adolescents. Methods: Data were derived from 250 adolescents' responses to questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Gender sensitivity according to gender was significantly different (t=-6.54, p=0.001). Gender sensitivity was positively correlated with sexual media literacy (r=0.36, p<0.001), and negatively correlated with sexual permissiveness (r=.22, p<.001). Sexual media literacy was negatively correlated with sexual permissiveness (r=-0.39, p<0.001). The variables affecting the participants' gender sensitivity on media literacy were gender (β=0.33, p<0.001) and sexual depiction scene (β=0.24, p<0.001). Conclusion: Gender and sexual media literacy influenced participants' gender sensitivity. Therefore, when developing a school-based sex education program, sexual media literacy should be included as a key concept; moreover, gender-specific programs need to be developed. Furthermore, teaching methods should enhance media literacy related to sexual depiction scenes and promote safe and healthy sexual permissiveness.

대상 데이터

본 연구는 수도권에 소재한 중학교 3학년 및 고등학교 전 학년 학생 중 본 연구의 목적을 이해하고 참여하기로 한 학생들을 대상으로 편의표본추출을 통해 실시하였다. 연구에 필요한 대상자의 수는 G*power3.
본 연구의 설문에는 성과 관련된 민감한 내용이 포함되어 있어 어린 청소년에게 심리적인 부담을 줄 수 있고, 의도하지 않은 부정적인 학습효과를 발생시킬 위험이 있다는 IRB의 권고에 따 라 만 14세 이하의 아동이 포함되어있는 중학교 1, 2 학년의 학생들은 대상에서 제외하였다. 응답자의 탈락률 20%를 고려하여 총 262명을 대상으로 설문지를 배부하였고, 불충분한 자료를 제외하고 총 250부를 자료 분석에 사용하였다.

데이터처리

● 성미디어리터러시, 성허용성, 성인지감수성 간의 상관관계를 파악하기 위해 Pearson’s correlation coefficient를 이용하여 분석하였다.
● 성미디어리터러시, 성허용성이 성인지감수성에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 Multiple Regression을 이용하여 분석하였다.
● 일반적 특성에 따른 성미디어리터러시, 성허용성, 성인지감수성의 차이를 파악하기 위해 t-test, one-way ANOVA, 사후검정을 위해 Scheffe’s test를 이용하여 분석하였다.

이론/모형

성미디어리터러시는 Pinkleton 등(2008)이 개발하여 Lee 등(2016)이 수정, 보완한 성에 대한 미디어리터러시 척도를 사용하여 측정하였다. 본 도구는 총 8문항으로 ‘미디어 속의 성적 묘사 장면을 선호함’ 5문항과 ‘미디어의 영향에 대한 인식’ 3문항으로 구성되어 있다.
성인지감수성은 한국성폭력상담소(2006)에서 개발한 젠더의식척도와 An 등(2016)이 개발한 한국형 남녀평등의식 척도의 축약형을 사용하여 측정하였다. 본 도구는 총 22문항으로 젠더의식 10문항, 양성평등의식 12문항으로 구성되어 있다.
성허용성은 Reiss (1969)의 혼전 성허용성 도구를 Sprecher, Mckinney, Walsh와 Anderson (1988)이 재구성한 것을 Jeong 등(1995)이 수정한 도구를 사용하여 측정하였다. 본 도구는 총 16개의 문항으로 구성되어 있다.

본 연구에서는 대상자의 일반적 특성 및 성 관련 특성을 포함하여 성미디어리터러시, 성허용성이 성인지감수성에 미치는 영향을 파악하였다. 연구결과 성미디어 리터러시가 높을수록 성인지감수성이 높았으며, 성허용성이 낮을수록 성인지감수성이 높았으며, 성인지감수성에 영향을 미치는 요인은 성미디어리터러시의 하위요인 중 성적묘사장면에 대한 미디어리터러시와 성별인 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 성미디어리터러시의 하위요인 중 성적 묘사장면에 대한 미디어리터러시가 높고 남자에 비해 여자가 성인지감수성이 높아진다는 것을 의미한다.

젠더의식의 내용은 구체적으로 데이트 성폭력, 여성성과 남성성, 신체노출, 결혼이주, 성폭력, 뚱뚱한 몸 등 젠더를 둘러싼 이슈들에 대한 생각으로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 젠더의식의 수준이 성허용성과 관련이 있을 것으로 추측되나 이것에 대한 연구가 제한적이므로 향후 이를 밝히기 위한 반복적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다.
따라서 성 미디어리터러시가 높은 청소년은 미디어를 통해 접하게 되는 정보 속에서 고정관념적 성관념이나 성불평등과 관련된 요소들을 발견하였을 때 그것에 대해 좀 더 비판적으로 사고하여 민감하게 식별해내고 있는 것으로 생각된다. 이를 종합해 볼 때 청소년의 성인지감수성을 향상시키기 위해서는 청소년들이 미디어를 통해 접하게 되는 성 정보를 정확하게 분석하고 평가하여 받아들일 수 있도록 돕는 성미디어리터러시 교육을 개발 및 제공하고 그 효과를 검증하는 후속연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.
