본 연구는 한국 장애학생을 위한 전환교육 모델을 융합 재구성하는 데 목적을 두어 실시되었으며, 궁극적으로 학교-지역사회 연계 장애인평생교육 지원체제 개발 타당성 관점을 제고하고자 하는 데 의의를 두어 역시 실시되었다. 연구 방법은 장애학생 전환교육 모델을 학령기와 성인기 간 연계 관점에서 구체화하고자 한 선행 연구문헌을 분석한 절차를 기초로 하여 전문가 회의를 병행하는 절차로 구성되었다. 연구 내용은 현행 특수교육 분야에 구축된 전환교육모델을 융합 재구성하기 위해 IEP-ITP-ILEP 간 연계교육이 특수교육과 장애인평생교육 간에 학교 중심, 지역사회 중심, 교육, 복지의 관점을 근거로 일관적 연계 타당성을 확보하는 차원으로 반영되었다. 이에 따라, 학령기 중심의 특수교육 분야에서 구축된 장애학생의 전환교육 모델이 학령기와 성인기 전환 시점의 단편적 접근 경향성을 최소화하고, 성인기 전체와 연계될 수 있는 표준 근거와 구성 체계를 제시함으로써 현행의 전환교육 모델을 내용 측면에서 융합 재구성하였다.
