본 연구는 독립주거 정신장애인의 초기적응지원 프로그램 성과를 파악하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그리하여 서울지역 T 정신재활시설의 독립주거 정신장애인 그룹을 실험집단으로, 생활시설'과 공동생활가정의 정신장애인 그룹을 통제집단으로 선정하였다.. 그후 그룹 간의 지역사회 성과 정도를 사전-사후 검사를 통해 비교하였다. 연구결과, 실험집단의 전체 사회적 지지의 사전-사후 분석결과, 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 또한 통제집단 모두에서 통계적으로 유의미하지 않은 결과를 나타내어 초기적응지원 프로그램은 독립주거 집단의 사회적 지지를 전반적으로 향상시키는 효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 퇴원한 정신장애인의 지역사회의 안정적인 정착을 위한 주거서비스의 성과체계 구축과 주거지원의 방향성을 제언하였다.
