2022 개정 교육과정 고등학교 지구과학 내용 구성 방안 탐색 -천문 영역을 중심으로-

본 연구에서는 교육과정 개정에 따른 지구과학 내용 영역과 핵심개념의 변화에 대한 고등학생의 인식을 조사하고, 국내외 지구과학과 교육과정의 천문 영역 학습 요소 비교·분석을 통해 2022 개정 교육과정 고등학교 지구과학 선택과목의 천문 영역 내용구성(안)을 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2015 개정 교육과정으로 전환하면서 지구과학 교과목에 도입된 내용 영역 및 핵심개념에 대한 고등학생의 인식을 조사하여 분석하였다. 또한, 4명의 지구과학교육 전문가들이 우리나라를 비롯한 미국, 캐나다 British Columbia(BC)주, 일본, 국제 바칼로레아 디플로마 프로그램(IBDP) 교육과정에 제시된 천문 영역 학습 내용을 비교·분석하였다. 설문 조사 결과, 지구과학 내용 영역 중 학생들이 가장 큰 매력을 느끼는 내용은 천문 영역으로 나타났다. 천문 관련 핵심개념에 가장 큰 흥미를 느낀다고 응답한 고등학생들은 2015 개정 교육과정에서 천체관측 관련 내용이 삭제된 것에 대해 많은 아쉬움을 나타내었다. 국내외 교육과정을 비교한 결과, 우리나라와 IBDP 교육과정이 가장 많은 양의 천문 영역 학습 내용을 다루고 있었다. 캐나다 BC주와 IBDP의 경우, 천문 영역을 독립된 과목으로 개설하며, 우리나라와 가장 유사한 일본의 교육과정은 지구과학 과목에서 천문 영역의 내용을 다루고 있다. 연구결과에 따르면, 천문교육 강화를 위해 학생들이 흥미를 가질 수 있는 학습 요소와 변별력을 확보할 수 있는 천문 관련 내용으로 지구과학 일반 선택과목을 구성할 필요가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 천문 영역은 다양한 학문의 배경지식이 요구되며 교과 연계 학습이 필요하므로 일반적인 천문학의 지식체계를 따라 진로 선택과목을 구성할 필요가 있다. 연구결과를 토대로 천문교육을 통한 과학소양교육 실현에 초점을 두고 2022 개정 교육과정 지구과학 선택과목의 천문 영역 내용 구성(안)을 제안하였다.
