본 연구의 목적은 도시 내 주상복합 건축물의 공개공지 활성화를 위한 계획 및 설계 방법론에 있어서의 시사점을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 부산시의 "경성대·부경대역' 일대의 주상복합건축물을 중심으로 이론적 고찰과 사례분석을 진행하였다. 분석의 틀은 공간구성·공개공지 가로시설물·공개공지 이용행태·가로와의 연계성으로 설정하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일반인의 접근이 용이한 개방된 위치에 실제적으로 이용할 수 있는 비어있는 공간으로 구성되는 필요하다. 둘째, 사람들의 이용을 고려하여 실제적으로 휴식에 이용될 수 있는 가로시설물의 설치가 필요하다. 셋째, 일반인의 접근 및 이용행태를 고려한 계획 및 설계와 이를 통한 공간의 조성이 필요하다. 넷째, 가로와 공개공지의 통합과 이를 통한 가로와의 연계성에 있어서의 상승효과를 내는 것이 필요하다.
