본 연구는 통합학급의 특수교육대상학생에게 적합한 교육을 제공하기 위한 교육과정 재구성 방안을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 공통 교육과정과 기본 교육과정의 연계를 통하여 특수교육대상학생을 위한 맞춤형 음악과 교육과정 재구성 모형을 제시하였다. 이는 특수교육대상학생의 특성 및 교육적 요구 분석, 음악과 공통 교육과정 및 기본 교육과정 분석, 특수교육대상학생을 위한 세분화된 평가준거 성취기준 설정, 공통 교육과정 및 기본 교육과정의 음악과 교과서 분석, 음악과 단원의 교육활동 재구성, 맞춤형 음악과 수업 실시의 6단계로 이루어진다. 또한 본 연구에서는 지적장애 학생을 위한 창작 활동을 중심으로 음악과 교육과정 재구성의 예시를 제시하였다. 이와 같은 음악과 교육과정 재구성을 통하여 학교 현장에서 특수교육대상학생의 교육적 필요에 따라 교육과정을 재구성할 수 있는 구체적 방안을 제시하였다.
