본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 1~4학년의 자아존중감 변화궤적 및 잠재계층유형을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국아동패널 8~11차년도 자료를 사용하여 잠재성장모형과 잠재계층성장분석을 실시했다. 먼저 잠재성장모형을 통해 분석한 결과, 가장 적합한 모형으로 선형변화모형이 채택되었으며 변화궤적은 학년이 높아짐에 따라 미세하게 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 잠재계층성장분석을 통해 총 4개의 잠재계층 집단('고수준-유지', '저수준-증가', '고수준-감소', '저수준-유지')이 도출됐다. 집단별 분포를 살펴보면, 대부분의 아동은 '고수준-유지' 집단이었고, 다음으로 '고수준-감소', '저수준-증가', '저수준-유지' 집단의 순으로 나타났다. 이에 연구자들은 교육현장에서 초등학교 아동의 자아존중감이 상이한 잠재계층유형을 통해 변화할 수 있음을 인식할 필요가 있으며, 나아가 각 유형에 적합한 개별화된 지원을 제공하는 것이 요구됨을 제안한다.
