본 연구는 중년여성의 일상생활 스트레스가 행복감에 미치는 영향과 우울감의 매개효과를 검증하여 중년여성의 일상생활 스트레스와 우울감을 감소시키고 행복감 향상을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 분석을 위해 한국여성정책연구원에서 조사한 여성가족패널 8차 조사를 활용하였다. 표본은 만 55세 이상~ 만 64세 기혼 중년여성 1,673명을 대상으로, SPSS WIN 25.0을 활용하였다. 분석방법은 빈도⋅기술통계⋅상관관계 분석을 실시하였고, Baron & Kenny의 분석방법을 통해 우울감의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중년여성의 일상생활 스트레스는 행복감에 부(-)적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 중년여성의 일상생활 스트레스와 행복감 간의 관계에서 우울감은 부분 매개하였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 중년여성의 행복감을 증진시켜 이후 노년기까지 이어질 수 있는 실천적⋅정책적 방안과 프로그램을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
