This aim of this article is to clarify the conceptual structure of ideologies of some significant conservative civic associations in South Korea. For this purpose this study analyzes the frequency and morphological networks of ideological concepts in the document which have been publicly released by the associations. On the basis of this deductive inquiry it further moves on to a qualitative interpretation of a more limited amount of targeted documents. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: First, the conservative ideology, in the sense of ‘conservare’, performs a minimal function of binding together various right-wing associations, but the conservative character of the Korean conservative associations should be found in their common attempts to preserve a unique ensemble of anticommunist, value-conservative, developmentalist, and market-liberal ideologies, which have been shaped in the context of Korean modern history. Second, the popular distinction of ‘old-rights’ and ‘new-rights’ proved to have no actual foundation in the realm of ideologies. The hypothesis of an ideological homogeneity within ‘old-right’ or ‘new-right’ associations was definitely rejected both in respect to ideological concepts and from the perspective of conceptual networks. Finally, the new-right associations whose master frame consists of market ideology, however, are transforming the traditional conservative ideologies in a significant way. The core of new-right ideologies doesn’t lie in a pure market logic that considers inequality and social problems as a necessary evil, but in a bourgeois hegemonic discourse that articulates the market principle as the best way to solve existing social problems.
