The Lower Cretaceous Charophyte fossils of 6 genera 11 species from the Daegu and Jinju areas of the Kyongsang Basin are described. And, the age determination of the charophyte horizons of the Kyongsang Synthem has been possible by means of correlating them with the known charophyte bearing deposits

The Lower Cretaceous Charophyte fossils of 6 genera 11 species from the Daegu and Jinju areas of the Kyongsang Basin are described. And, the age determination of the charophyte horizons of the Kyongsang Synthem has been possible by means of correlating them with the known charophyte bearing deposits of various Localities of the world Clypeator jiuquanensis, a species of Clavatoraceae found for the first time in Korea both fron the Nakdong Formation in Daegu and Jinju areas is particularly important as a guide fossil. comparing the specimen of this species with the c. jiuquanensis of China, they are a little bigger but very similar morphologically. Based on the c. jiuquanensis from the lower and the upper parts of the Nakdong Formation mentioned above, Sindong Group is correlated with the Jiande Group in SE. China known as Neocomian in age. Obtusochara cylindrica and Euaclistochara mundula that occur in the Banyawol and Songnaedong Formations are the elements of the 4th zone (Aptian) of Clavatoraceae in China. This makes it possible that the Hayang Group is correlated with the Aptian - Upper Albian of the other parts of the world.
