紅花(Carthamus tinctorius L.)는 국화과에 속하는 1년생 또는 월년생 식물로 잇꽃이라고도 불리며(李, 1993 ; 安, 1975), 잎은 호생하고 잎자루가 없으며 잎과 화두에는 날카로운 침이 있는데 잎의 형태와 꽃의 색깔, 꽃봉오리 모양 등이 다양하다(金, 2000).
홍화는 동양에서는 주로 약용으로 이용하였고, 서양에서는 기름용으로 재배육종되어 왔다. 홍화는 꽃잎과 종자를 이용하는데 꽃잎의 붉은 색은 식용색소와 고급염료로 이용하기도 하였으며 活血, 通經, 驅瘀 등에 효능이 있어 腹痛과 解人病에 쓰였다(金 等

This experiment was carried .out to certify the labour-saving management and cultivation methods of safflower. Safflower was seeded by drill sowing, spot seeding, broadcast seeding and broad ridge seeding on non-mulching fields with "Cheongsoo" cultiv
1. Growing and seed yield by seeding methods★
This experiment was carried .out to certify the labour-saving management and cultivation methods of safflower. Safflower was seeded by drill sowing, spot seeding, broadcast seeding and broad ridge seeding on non-mulching fields with "Cheongsoo" cultivar. Seed stand rate was 28.2 plant/$m^{2}$ on broad ridge seeding and shoot growth was depressed broad ridge seeding treatment compared to any other treatment. The highest number of flower per plant was observed in spot seeding treatment. Incidence of anthracnose and aphid on broadcast and broad ridge seeding treatments were observed much more than on drill sowing and spot seeding treatments. In the case of lodging of safflower plant, broadcast and broad ridge seeding treatments were observed slightly higher than drill sowing and spot seeding treatments. Seed yield of broad ridge seeding was 183Kg/10a, and increased 9% compared to drill sowing.★
2. Effects of seed yield and labour saiving on mechanized fanning★
Seeding rates per 10a were 8.1Kg on tractor drill seeding and 4.5Kg on hand spot seeding. Growth of safflower like stem length, stalk diameter, leaf number, branching number were depressed tractor drill seeding compared to hand spot seeding. Seed yield per 10a was increased 14% on treatment with hand seeder compared to conventional cultivation. Time for seeding per 10a was decreased 78% in the tractor drill seeding compared to· the conventional seeding. The harvesting time was required. 81 minute with binder, 44 minute with combine, 449 minute with conventional method and threshing time was 87 minute using threshing machine.★
3. Detel mination of ha I vesting time and cutting height★
To hal vest with combine, optimal harvesting time was 30 day after full bloom because work efficiency and seed yield was good and optimal cutting height was 10cm for combine harvesting.★
4. Effects of non-tillage seeding and additional fertilizer treatment on growth and seed yield of safflower★
Non-tillage seeding was increased the number of establishment than tillage seeding but decreased stalk diameter. Non-tillage seeding without applying additional fertilizer was depressed stem length, stalk diameter and leaf numbers. Seed yield in the treatment of additional fertilizer treatment after tillage seeding was 206Kg/10a, and applied additional fertilizer after non -tillage seeding was 187Kg/10a, these means that the seed yields of those treatment were increased 18%, 7%, respectively, compared to the conventional cultivation; non-additional fertilizer after tillage seeding.
