본 연구에서는 경량체 개발, 유니트화 연구, 시공방법 개발, 성능평가를 통한 이방향 중공슬래브 시스템을 개발하였다. 경량체는 내구성, 작업하중에 대한 안전성 확보를 위한 최적의 형상을 선정하고 개발된 경량체를 일체화하여 각 적용공법(합판거푸집형, Deck 형, Half PC형)에 따른 시공방법을 개발하였다. 또한 이방향중공슬래브 시스템의 구조성능, 내화성능 및 사용성능을 평가하기 위하여 구조실험, 내화실험, 층간소음, 진동측정 및 단열해석 등을 통하여 이방향 중공슬래브의 구조적 안정성에 대해 규명하였다.

Two-way void slab system(TVS) provides several advantages over the traditional solid reinforced concrete slab system with little additional cost. From a structural viewpoint, the TVS system started in an effort to develop an efficient cross section of the reinforced concrete slab system by placing the effective concrete area as farther from the neutral axis as possible. Accordingly, the system comes to offer almost the same flexural strength with less reinforced concrete and with less dead load, compared to the traditional slab system of the same cross height. In addition, by reducing the amount of reinforced concrete, the TVS decreases the amount of CO2 emissions, resulting in an eco-friendly structural system.
This research consisted of the following:
(1) Literature review
Extensive literature worldwide was examined to study previous research results and investigate existing similar technologies.
(2) Development of void ball
The TVS system is constructed by forming voids in a reinforced concrete slab. To enable this, void balls are placed before concrete casting. To maximize the void ratio without decreasing flexural strength and without causing safety problem during construction, the shape of the void ball was elaborately developed. Eco-friendly material for the void balls was studied and selected to be consistent with the attributes of this research.
(3) Unitization of void balls
In the application of the TVS system, unitizing the developed void balls is one of the key features to increase the construction accuracy in placing the void balls and to minimize additional construction time or procedures. An anti-buoyant tier was additionally developed to prevent the unitized void balls from floating during concrete casting.
(4) Construction methods
Construction methods was also studied so that the TVS system can replace or can be applied to various traditional slab systems, including conventional plywood form-type slab, Half PC-type slab, and Deck-type slab.
(5) Performance evaluation
The developed TVS system was examined experimentally and analytically to evaluate structural and fire-safety performance as well as provide guidelines to structural engineers and field engineers.
