1-deoxynojirimysin(1-DNJ), a component in silkworm powder, has function that prevent on what a glucose is absorbed into blood from small intestine as inhibiting a α-glucosidase activity.Because of this function, 1-DNJ is use for non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus patient as a hypoglycemic agent
1-deoxynojirimysin(1-DNJ), a component in silkworm powder, has function that prevent on what a glucose is absorbed into blood from small intestine as inhibiting a α-glucosidase activity.Because of this function, 1-DNJ is use for non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus patient as a hypoglycemic agent.
We analyzed 1-deoxynojirimycin(1-DNJ) and rutin content using a various of silkworm and mulberry genetic resource’s race/system. Also 1-DNJ content produced by a silkworm cross-combination with the selected silkworm was compared.
First of all, Mulberry leaves were collected and then freeze-dried and powdered for 1-DNJ and rutin test. As a result, in the 1-DNJ analysis, mean content of mulberry strains was 0.176±0.077 %, and the coefficient of variation (CV) was 43.5%. The variation between the strains was greatly severe. Among the tested strains, ' C1D89/29' was showed the highest content of 0.47%, whereas ' Pumbo 24' and ' Turkey E' were showed the lowest content of 0.05% respectively. The content of 1-DNJ of 16 mulberry varieties for silkworm rearing were compared. Average concentration was 0.17 ± 0.04%, and the coefficient of variation (CV) was 22.8%. Variation among cultivars was not significant. Finally we selected 1-DNJ high-containing 11 strains. They are as follows. ' C1D89/29' , ' Hiihak' , ' Jeokasibmunja' , ' Gweonchil' , ' Botongsibmunja' , ' Jeokchuk' ' bulguksang' , ' Geunsookgojo' , ' Busanggeum' , ' Guksang 20' and ' Taekwang' which are more than twice of the overall average content.
In the rutin analysis, mean content of mulberry strains was 0.47±0.23 %, and the coefficient of variation (CV) was 49.7%. The variation between the strains was greatly severe. Among the tested strains, ' Buyoungsang' was showed the highest content of 1.37%, whereas ' Sungsu 3' was showed the lowest content of 0.01% respectively. The content of rutin of 16 mulberry varieties for silkworm rearing were compared. ' Cheongolppong' was showed the highest content of 0.69%, whereas ' Cheongilppong' was showed the lowest content of 0.04% respectively. Finally we selected rutin high-containing 9 strains. They are as follows. ' Buyoungsang' , ' Yeulbon' , ' Dangsang 5' , ' A8' , ' Aja' , ' Seongsu 5' , ' Sawonppong 12' , ' Hwanyoupjosaengnosang' and ' Hwansipjosaeng' which are more than twice of the overall average content.
This study was analyzed for 1-DNJ and rutin contents that has a various of silkworm gene resource’s race/system and compared with 1-DNJ and rutin contents produced by a silkworm cross-combination for a functional materials. In case of the comparison about geographical system or races of silkworm gene resource, 1-DNJ contents was order to Japanese(race name: SK-1) > Chinese(race name: C48) > European(race name: Rock191). 1-DNJ contents for each organ of silkworm, meanwhile, was order to blood > midgut > a fat body > a silk gland. In rutin contents, the average contents was 0.227±0.098(%), specially, Jamsaeng-1 was the best. In case of 1-DNJ contents for a gender of silkworm, a male were higher than a female. But, 1-DNJ contents about a genetic trait (blood color, silk color, egg color) were not change. To know about 1-DNJ and rutin contents change for a cross-combination of silkworm gene resource, it did a cross-combination utilizing a Japanese or Chinese silkworms. In case of rutin, Japanese’s contents decreased on 0.065% and Chinese’s contents decreased on 0.004%.
In conclusion, as providing the information about contents of a functional materials contained in mulberry leaves and silkworm powder, it is considered that mulberry leaves and silkworm powder race breeding or processed goods related to a functional materials from silkworm will increase.
