Ⅳ. Results and Discussion
4-1. Developed high temperature type PEMFC fuel cell stack and designed triple cogeneration combined power generation system
■ In this program, we developed a design technology about stack component to improve the power density and performance of HT-PEMFC stack. For this purpose, we developed the original technology for manufacturing 1kW class stack by analyzing pressure gradient and power density distribution. Detailed technical development results are as follows.
- Proposal of stack design by performance analysis according to SR, voltage stability and heating type, etc.(using benchmark stack)
- Review fo possibility of large scale area to improve output density after characteristics analysis according to change of stack area
- Calculation of cell number for developing 1kw class stack and stack design by optimizing area and drive current density of HT-PEMFC MEA area
- Proposal of optimal design by fluid analysis according to channel type
- Performance review and design derivation of bipolar plate for 9L/kW or less HT-PEMFC stack
- Reliability review/correction and improvement of design through analysis of flow distribution deviation and uniformity in the flow path(Completed drawing design)
- Determination of required target function for optimum design of cooling plate and derivation of design(Completed drawing design)
- Fulfillment of analysis modeling by analyzing the operating characteristics of tri-generation system for HT-PEMFC application
- Result error between tri-generation base performance and final model analysis within 5%(Approximately 4.7%)
- Development of analysis model for cooling/heating system in tri-generation and waste heat of PEMFC
4-2. Development of low-cost electrolyte membrane and membrane electrode assembly (MEA) manufacturing technology for high-temperature PEMFC
■ Development of electrode and MEA with low Pt loading (Pt loading: 1.2 mg/cm2) for high performance PEM fuel cell
■ Mass production technology design of electrolyte membrane, electrode and MEA (fuel cell performance: 0.72V @0.2 A/cm2)
4-3. Ultra High Efficiency Electrode Material System for High Temperature PEMFC
■ To understand the HT-PEMFC working mechanisms at molecular level, develop high-performance non-PGM/low-PGM fuel cell catalysts and electrodes with results of more than 5 high impact SCI articles, 3 patents, and 5 conference papers per year, and raise the well-educated graduate students in the field of fuel cells
4-4. Development of high-conductivity thin plate separator / gasket integrated manufacturing technology
■ In this study, the formation of conducting paths in the FEP/graphite composites was governed by the particle size of the conducting graphite particle; it was observed that the mixed graphite particles could dramatically increase the electrical resistivity of 92±5 mΩcm and flexural strength of 20±2 MPa at a total graphite content of 75 wt% because of the extruder was effective in dispersing and aligning graphite in FEP matrix by applying a high shear force.
