Recently, the formation of comfort urban environment and the social needs about the qualitative improvement of life are on the increase with the economic and social maturity. Also, the streetscape is considered as an important factor of urban planning. Thus, it becomes powerful in the problems of qualitative improvement of green belt like the drive of quantitative enlargement of green belt in the city and the improvement of urban landscape considered the social condition, etc. With those social needs this study is to investigate the status of street tree-planning in Jinju City, and this study is to make it play a role as basic data of general street tree-planning program hereafter. Accordingly, this study is to be classified with the linear factor by the functional pattern of street and the dot factors like the intersection, small vacant lot, and effective space, etc. for the execution of effective research. And, this study was to investigate·analyze the size of planted street trees and the planting status at the main roadside in Jinju City, the effect on the street trees by the surrounding environment, and the existence of producing the walking environment by the street trees, and the small vacant lot at the roadside, etc. From the result of this research above, it may be summed up as follows. First, as for the panting status in Jinju City, it secures the high level amount of street trees compared with the other cities in Gyeongnam, but it does not reflect the characteristics of area or road because the street tree species make too much of a part of species. Also, it offers a cause that the streetscape becomes standardization by the simple planting pattern of street trees. Accordingly, it needs to develop the planting pattern of street trees by the constitution of various plant species in the construction of street environment hereafter and the adjustment of transaction of street trees, etc. Second, the tree-planting status of street trees was excellent as a whole. But, the rearing of street trees was impeded because of excessive pruning by the utility poles and wires and surrounding stores. And, the appearance of street was spoiled by the damage of protective covers for the street trees and the negligence of garbage and file-up matter, etc. Accordingly, it needs to induce the voluntary and active management by the citizens who enjoy the effect and benefit by the street trees. Third, the uniform planting street trees that do not consider the relation with the width of sidewalk and the road facilities have an effect on the goal of natural and comfortable walking environment negatively in the relation with the street trees and the walking environment. Accordingly, it requires them to arrange the street trees considering the pedestrians and the road facilities properly.
