More than any other composer, Chopin transformed the piano into an ideal medium for Romanticism. He created entire new sound worlds of pianistic melancholy, and delicacy; technically, he developed a range of power and brilliance that far outshone the efforts of the virtuoso pianist of his day. Chopin's Etudes ("studies"), which are still unequaled for perfecting keyboard technique, have as distinct a "character" as any other romantic miniature. This thesis aims at understanding Chopin's various musical expressions with Chopin's etude to improve piano technique. I selected four types of Chopin's piano techniques on the pieces of Chopin's Etudes and studied: left hand technique, double sound technique, arpeggio techniques, and articulation technique. The use of different body parts, such as hands and wrists, elbows and arms, related with the four techniques were analyzed; Chopin's characteristic melodies, harmonies, and rhythms were also analyzed for the musical interpretation of compositions based on Chopin's etudes. Left hand practice can be explained, dividing into skips and scales; Op.10, No 9 was used to explain Chopin's characteristic left hand skips in the left hand play figures with wide intervals. The fifth finger functions for base pedal points; the third and fourth fingers repeat petal point C; the first finger goes together with the right hand voices, which require the technique for the left hand to perform various voices simultaneously. In the left hand practice of Op. 10, No. 12, playing musical scales equally with independent fingers was focused on. In double sound practices, musical figures with alternate 3rd degree and 6th degree sounds were practiced in Op.10, No. 7 instead of simple double sounds; Firm fingers and flexible wrist play 6th degree sound and octaves at the same time in Op. 10, No. 10. Simultaneous plays of octaves and chromatic scales were analyzed through legato plays of octaves in Op.25, No. 10. The double sound compositions mentioned above are to strengthen the five fingers equally and to learn diverse timbre expressions through strengthening fourth and fifth fingers. Two compositions with different characteristic arpeggios were chosen to practice arpeggios. Op. 10, No. 1 requires practices of quick and firm but flexible movements of the wrist, with five fingers of the left hand spread wide. Op. 10, No. 5 which should be played with more of narrower black keys requires faster rotations of wrist than Op. 10, No. 1. In order to play these two compositions without fault, there should be a harmony with the melodies played by the left hand with relaxed wrist based on independent fingers. For legato, tempo rubato, Chopin's exemplary expression, was focused on with Op.10, No.3; leggiero expressions which require delicate sense of touch was focused on in .Op. 25, No. 5
