The purpose of this study is how cooperative play affects reducing negative attempts and reactive behaviors as well as increasing positive attempts and reactive behaviors on Asperger syndrome child’s social interactive behaviors. The subjects of this study were one 4th and 5th grade boy, respectively and one 5th grade girl of elementary school who was diagnosed as Asperger’s disorder with overall IQ 100 or higher under the K-WISC-Ⅲ and 28 points or below based on social interaction scale. In this study, observations and interventions were conducted 2 times a week, with one session of intervention lasting for 40 mins. As a single subject research in the AB design, baseline and cooperative play intervention were conducted, while social interactive behaviors among and between the children during the 10-minute free time were observed. Through the partial interval recording which consisted of 7-second observation and 3-second recording, dividing 10 minutes by 10 seconds, ratio of social interactive behaviors was calculated, charted and analyzed for changes. Findings from this study are as follows; First, Cooperative play increased positive attempts of an Asperger syndrome child’s social interaction. Second, Cooperative play increased positive reactive behaviors of an Asperger syndrome child’s social interaction. Third, Cooperative play reduced negative attempts of an Asperger syndrome child’s social interaction. Fourth, Cooperative play reduced negative reactive behaviors of an Asperger syndrome child’s social interaction. The results of this study imply that cooperative play is effective in reducing negative attempts and reactive behaviors as well as increasing positive attempts and reactive behaviors, among Asperger syndrome child’s social interactive behaviors.
