Instrument education has a good characteristic in that it is not only hearing and visual education, but also includes a sense of muscles and movements, and has a deeper side of music experience than singing, creating or listening. Children understand the idea of music more clearly through instrument playing, and can train expression and playing skills. In addition, since children not only experience "playing instruments," but also "listening to instruments," they can understand and appreciate beautiful and solemn harmonies and develop musical emotions in the process. Since the period from toddler to elementary school is the time when senses are the most sensitive, it is hard to expect great development of musical capabilities after this period. Perception in particular is almost impossible without stimulation of the senses. Therefore a sense of music has to be developed at a young age, and this can be taught through combined teaching of a musical instrument. However, even though instrument playing is important in music education, it is not being carried out effectively in the field. Since the current music education curriculum consists of learning certain songs, most classes focus on singing. Therefore, there is a need to introduce a verified teaching methodology related to instrument playing and systematic learning stages to lure voluntary participation of children in music activities, and to develop creativity through these methods. In order to do this, this study adopted Orff teaching methodology, which is acknowledged as a useful methodology in instrument teaching, focusing on elementary school grades 3 and 4, and examined methods to improve instrument teaching. The method of study to reach this aim is as follows. First the philosophy and approach method of Orff was examined through related documents and theses, and songs from the grades 3 and 4 textbooks (seventh curriculum) that appeared as if the Orff methodology adoption would be possible were selected. 5 songs were selected from each grade for a total of 10 songs, and the current situation and problems. Teaching stages using Orff pedagogy were constructed, and 5 of the 10 songs selected from grades 3 and 4 textbooks were finally selected and adopted according to the teaching stages. Teaching methods were presented focusing on musical ideas that need to accomplish through the songs, and since the constructed teaching stages present an overall guideline, some things can be overlapped, omitted or added at each stage, and can be changed according to the characteristic of the song. In addition, an arrangement of a song into instrumental piece that can actually be used in class was rearranged and presented to perfect the ensemble teaching plan, and was planned in order that instrument education could be carried out using Orff's idea of "elemental music" and activity methods. This study was a study on the music education of elementary school grades 3 and 4, so I did not examine other grades. I look forward to future studies on Orff teaching material systematically related to school grades and Orff teaching methodology that can be used for instrumental activities.
