Nanostructured Pt/C and Pt-Co/C electrocatalysts synthesized by polyol method. Enhancement of activity of catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) were investigated for fuel cell application. Characteristics of catalysts were analyzed by various techniques, such as XRD, TEM, EDS and cyclic voltammetry. ORR test results of the catalysts showed that the the ORR activity for Pt-Co/C catalysts were larger than that of Pt/C. Pt/C and Pt-Co/C catalysts are conducted to test the ORR activity at different electrode temperature, each 25, 45 and 65℃, and a resulting increase in ORR activity was observed as increasing temperature. The stabilizing effect of Pt-Co/C electrocatalysts were determined by accelerated stability tests, ORR activity of Pt-Co/C electrocatalysts decreased when applying potential continuously. It is thought that Co ionized by strong acid and dissolved in electrolyte. Au/Pt-Co/C catalysts were prepared by adding Au to Pt-Co/C, and the Au/Pt-Co/C catalysts retained their ORR activity crucial for fuel cell catalysts after the deposition of Au cluster.
