The advance in medicine has increased the average human life span and organ transplantation is viewed as the only treatment that offers hope to terminal patients with organ failure and their families. To make organ transplantation prevailing, securing organ donators is important above all. The purpose of this study was to investigate knowledge and attitude about brain death, organ donation and organ transplantation in the organ donation candidate, so it could provide brain death the develop motivation and education for organ donation. The subjects were 91 candidates, they enrolled in organ tranplantation center of general hospitals in G city. All data were collected from January 28 to February 28, 2008. And this study adopted a Korean version of measurement tool(Ju Ae-eun, 1995) that was adapted and modified to meet Korean sentiments and culture, which was originated from a questionnaire form on common knowledge and attitudes about tisue/organ donation and transplantation(Hillman, 1984). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and Pearson correlation coefficient with a SPSS WIN 14.0 program. The results of this study is as followers; 1. The mean score of knowledge was 9.61 ± 3.47, showed relativelylow. The mean score of attitudes was 4.24 ± 0.97 showed rela tively high. 2. The knowledge about attitude about brain death, organ donation and transplantation according in general characteristics was significantly differences by academic career(F= 4.492, p= .006), blood donation experience(t=2.815, p= .006), registered period of desired organ donation(F= 3.493, p= .011), and self-motivation to particpation in education related to organ donation and trans plantation(F= 8.353, p< .000). 3. The attitudes about attitude about brain death, organ donation and transplantation according in general characteristics was significantly differences in their attitudes depending upon occupation(t= 2.256, p= .027), presence of parents(F= 1.304, p= .017), family's consent(t= 2.254, p= .027), family's recommendation on organ donation in donor's lifetime or after his death (F= 4.110, p= .009). 4. The relationship of knowledge and attitude was not statistical significantly(r= .043, p= .683). People who hope to be organ donators should be informed about brain death, organ donation and organ transplantation in detail, and they should be inspired to stay positive about organ donation. How to make it happen should carefully be considered, and education and public information materials about organ donation and transplantation are required to have organ donation more widespread.
