The aim of this study was to examine the melodic pattern and tune of daseureum which is the beginning part of gayageum sanjo. Preceding studies on gayageum sanjo are classified into melodies, rhythms, modes, tunes and teaching methods in general. But studies on the melodic pattern and tune of daseureum which is the beginning part of gayageum sanjo have been insufficiently carried than other spheres. It shows the fact that they have recognized the importance of movements which consist of gayageum sanjo and carried out many studies on it, but they have relatively neglected the studies on daseureum. In this vein, the investigator examined the classification of tunes, used scales and compositional scales of daseureum of such four schools' gayageum sanjo as Seong Geum-ryeon school, Kim Juk-pa school, Choe Ok-sam school, and Gang Tae-hong school of which transmissive education through educational institutes and performances are active for the present. Study findings are as follows: First, as for the structure of ridges of daseureum of four schools' gayageum sanjo, Seong Geum-ryeon school consists of 8 ridges; Kim Juk-pa school, 8; Choe Ok-sam school 7; and Gang Tae-hong school 6. Thus, the length of daseureum is different among schools. Second, as for the structure of melodies of daseureum of four schools' gayageum sanjo, they consist of a boncheng u-jo melody, e boncheng u-jo melody and G boncheng pyeong-jo melody. As for the scales, they commonly use mi scale, namely gyemyeon-jo scale for a and e boncheng u-jo melodies and a sol scale, namely u-jo scale for G boncheng pyeong-jo melody. In addition, the G boncheng pyeong-jo melody is closely related to the melodic patterns of doljang melody of jinyang-jo of gayageum sanjo in four schools from the aspect of use of vocal sounds. In other words, the doljang melody of jinyang-jo of gayageum sanjo is the melodic expansion of daseureum melody. Third, the vocal sounds of a boncheng u-jo melody which consists of the daseureum melody of four schools' gayageum sanjo are egabcd sounds. And e sound plays the role of vibrating sound; g sound, deoeum sound; a sound, bon sound; b sound. toe sound or bending sound; c sound, bending wit sound; and d sound, eot sound or byeon sound. The vocal sounds of e boncheng u-jo melody consist of bdef^(#)ga sounds. And b sound plays the role of vibrating sound; d sound, deoeum sound; e sound, bon sound; f^(#) sound, toe sound or bending sound; g sound, bending wit sound; and a sound, wit sound or byeon sound. The vocal sounds of G boncheong pyeong-jo consist of degab sounds. And d sound plays the role of hacheong sound; e sound, habon sound; g sound, bon sound; a sound, sangbon sound; and b sound, habon sound. Fourth, as for the beginning and ending sounds of daseureum of four schools' gayageum sanjo by tunes, Seong Geum-ryeon school's a boncheng u-jo melody begins with d, e, a sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, g sound; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, g and a sounds. And Seong Geum-ryeon school's a boncheng u-jo melody ends with g, e and a sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, e sound; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, g sound. Kim Juk-pa school's a boncheng u-jo melody begins with a, d, g, c → b sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, g and b sounds; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, d sound. And Kim Juk-pa school's a boncheng u-jo melody ends with g and a sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, e and g sounds; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, g sound. Choe Ok-sam school's a boncheng u-jo melody begins with d and a sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, d, e, and b sounds; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, g sound. And Choe Ok-sam school's a boncheng u-jo melody ends with g and a sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, e and g sounds; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, g sound. Gang Tae-hong school's a boncheng u-jo melody begins with d and e sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, g and b sounds; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, d sound. And Gang Tae-hong school's a boncheng u-jo melody ends with a and e sounds; e boncheng u-jo melody, b and g sounds; and G boncheong pyeong-jo, g sound.
