It is necessary to understand a writer's thought in order to comprehend the writer and his or her works. Studying the trend of a writer's thought would be the most important way of understanding the writer. The main idea of Jeong-ju Seo's poetry lies in finding the deep origin of Buddhism. Buddhist thought reflected in Jeong-ju Seo's poetry becomes a significant basis for his writing. This study analyzes the changing process of Jeong-ju Seo's poetry in relation to his Buddhist imagination. Jeong-ju Seo had found a feature of idealistic world in Silla, and he made an effort to versify it. Samgukyusa (Memorabilia of the Three kingdoms) played a key role in the process of versification. On the basis of an assumption that Samgukyusa becomes a main source for extracting 'the spirit of Silla', this study indentifies the process of poetic transfiguration from "Anthology of Jeong-ju Seo" to ”Myth of Jilmajae." It is "Sillacho" in which Jeong-ju Seo begins to use tales from Samgukyusa as poem. The poems in "Dongchun" are much more refined compare to those in "Sillacho." The poems not only have abridged words, but also have clear lines and verses. Time is in the state of stillness, and the path for eternal world is just endlessly repeating in shortened words. It is fair to say that "Jilmajae myth" is the zenith of Jeong-ju Seo's description. The bold prose poem has no poetic change; in other words, it pursues a narrative form and adopts a traditional storyteller which is an unprecedented thing in the history of modern and contemporary poetry. The myth of Jilmajae affluently borrows myths, fables, and folktales recorded in Samgukyusa. In the case of Jeong-ju Seo, the adoption of Buddhist fable as poem was always in his life. It means maturity of Jeong-ju Seo's spiritual world and also extends the spiritual world of Korean poetry toward the world of ancient thinking by expanding the range of poetic writing. The world of Karma takes an important part in Jeong-ju Seo's poem. It appears such various forms as encounter and separation, life and death, and willingness to reach the eternal world. Karma (destiny) is the fundamental worldview of Buddhism that regards every single event in the world is determined by the principle of cause and effect. The idealistic world of Jeong-ju Seo's poem comes to the space of the cycle of Samsara (reincarnation) in the Western paradise. The feature of Samsara appears sometimes as flower and sometimes as seed. To create a new poetic world, Jeong-ju Seo accepts the spirit of Silla and the worldview of Karma and Samsara of Buddhism. He between life and death, which is symbolized in one identical orbit and shaped in repeated forms. The repeated techniques serves as a link of Samsara and represents continuous effort to find self-detection and a prototype of life. The poetry of Jeong-ju Seo based on Karma and Samara aims the principle lf eternity for establishing a permanent life structure by reproducing the past world in the real world and extending it to the future. Sillacho and Dongchun are collections of poems that made images with dynamic mixture of Karma and Samsara that are based on Buddhist's world perception and imagination. We can see the world of naught and emptiness, the world in Jeong-ju Seo's Buddhist world conception centered around Karma and Samsra. The thought of naught and emptiness pursued by Jeong-ju Seo is recognized as an unmeasurable and infinite world which is connected to the world of eternity. It is hard to approach Jeong-ju Seo's poem in terms of an idea that a poem simply versifies a poet's feelings. We can see Buddhist spirit reflected in Jeong-ju Seo's poetry in almost every poem rather than in just a collection of poems or in an era.
