The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of early English education on Korean elementary students and, thereby, to search for a new guideline for the effective and powerful teaching method for elementary students who recently come to take English as their compulsive course. To examine students' response to their own early English education, we surveyed 100 third graders and 100 sixth graders of an elementary school in Busan. The questionnaire consists of 17 items with regard to the real conditions of the early English education and its actual effects. The result of the survey shows that early English education has an enormously positive effects on students: the students who experienced the early English education tend to enjoy English with much more confidence and satisfaction than those who have not. Yet, it should be also noted that the sixth graders are much less satisfied with and confident in English than the third graders. This suggests that the teaching methods for the sixth grade students have not been successful, and, accordingly, demands for a new method that can not only keep students' earlier interest in English but, much more importantly, effectively enhance students' proficiency in English.
