Korea was the second nation which had produced porcelain following China. Thus, Korea has excellent skills on producing porcelain. Korea had inherited tradition of hard white porcelain of late Yuan and early Ming of China so Korea produced nice white porcelain early in the time then blue and white porcelain was produced. According to the annals of Hyo-jong, blue and white porcelain was imported since the end of Korean dynasty. Blue and white porcelain had been produced during the whole period of Joseon dynasty. At the beginning of Joseon the number of produced blue and white porcelain was not that much but after the middle of period, from Geumsari period, blue and white porcelain was produced very actively. Plus, a lot more number of blue and white porcelain had made than that of the beginning of Joseon, however price of blue pigment was still so high that it was saved and used a little. After the Bunwon was moved to Namjong-myun Bunwon-ri in 1752, since 19th century as the price of blue and white porcelain got cheaper and because of the imported western artificial blue and white porcelain from Japan, the manufacturing of blue and white porcelain increased more. The study on blue pigment which had produced during the whole period of Joseon was progressed only in Bunwonri then the necessity of scientific research on blue pigment produced during the whole period of Joseon and the necessity of comparison between blue pigment of China and that of Korea are recognized. Thus, typical characteristics of blue and white porcelain are handled by analyzing chemical components and fine structure of 18 porcelain fragments of Geumsari in middle age of Chosun and Chiljeonri of late Joseon. Soil, glaze and pigment are observed in the same way with the experiment held before. Additionally, to figure out what the characteristic of color of blue pigment in time order 19 fragments, five fragments of early Joseon, three of Geumsari, five of Bunwonri, six of Chiljunri, were analyzed. On the other hand, to contrast Chinese blue and white pigment and Korean blue and white pigment 27 fragments, four fragments of Ming period, two of Ming, two of Ching, five of early Joseon, six of Geumsari, four of Bunwonri, four of Chiljunri, were analyzed by ED-XRF. Also, to figure out the characteristic of color, color experiment had been attempted. There was slight difference in color of blue pigment. Fragments of early Joseon period, Bunwonri, and few of Chiljunri had low chroma, thus they had dark and muddy blue color. However, most of the fragments of Bunwonri and Chiljunri had a high chroma so colors of them were bright. Wide spread of composition of Seger distribution of Geumsari and Bunwonri means that the body of blue and white porcelain corresponds with a documentary which contains the fact that various types of porcelain stone were used to make body of blue and white porcelain. However, blue and white porcelain of Chiljunri where was diggings of white clay used porcelain stone in Yang-gu area only. There was tiny difference on glaze of every period. Glaze used in mid-Joseon had change lime glaze into alkali glaze then it was fixed until the end of Joseon dynasty. However, lime glaze which contained a lot of CaO like glaze of early Joseon was used for Chiljunri porcelain because of flaw of body. The feature of blue and white pigment of early Joseon was similar with that of Yuan. Thus, it was revealed that blue and white pigment of early Joseon was the same one with imported pigment of Persia of Yuan and early Ming. The characteristic of blue pigment used in blue and white porcelain of mid-Joseon is the same with that of the period after Mallyuk and it means that Chinese blue pigment which contained low Fe2O3 and high MnO was used for blue and white porcelain of Geumsari of mid-Joseon. Two types of blue pigment were used in Bunwonri in late Joseon. First, blue pigment which inherited Geumsari style which contained low Fe2O3 and high MnO and second, blue pigment which is similar with Chiljunri kiln and it contained low Fe2O3 and low MnO. The latter one seems to be western pigment. Therefore, three types of blue pigment were used in Joseon dynasty and there was not that big difference with transition of Chinese blue pigment. Color of blue pigment has crucial relation with firing temperature, image, glazing, oxidized steel, oxidized manganese, content of cobalt and element transfer. Whole characteristics of blue pigment are handled by scientific analyze on blue pigment of Joseon dynasty. If there were any deficiency in this research, support from excavation organization or museum is expected for immense study.
