The appropriateness of the contrast media usage in the Abdomen CT test has been validated through the correlation analysis between body composition index and HU values of the portal vein in 100 subjects with the Abdomen CT test among those who had undergone the physical check up program from May to December 2010. The used statistical methods for this were frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analysis by SPSS for Windows program (version 12.0); analyzing the general characteristics such as sex, age, height, and body weight; and the correlation between the HU values of the portal vein and the body composition indexes including BMI, visceral fat, body fat rate, and WHR. The study subjects were 82 males and 18 females, distributed the ages from 30s to 50s, 30s were 42 subjects, the highest group, while the heights of 41 subjects out of them were shown in the range of 160 to 170cm, and the body weights of 40 subjects were not more than 80kg, For the general characteristics, the height and body weight affected to HU values of the portal vein, significantly (p=.000, and p=0.000, respectively). For the body composition indexes, BIM (p=.001), visceral fat (p=.000), body fat (p=.444), and WHR (p=.000) affected to HU values of the portal vein significantly while the body fat rate did not (p=.195). Regarding the correlation between the body composition index and HU value, BMI(-.379), visceral fat (-.399), body fat (-.288), and WHR (-.370) showed negative correlations except for body fat rate (-.131). Therefore, it was confirmed that the efficacies of contrast media on the Abdomen CT had proven in the body weight , height, BMI, visceral fat, body and WHR. For the subjects who were lower than the standard range of the body weight and height, they were confirmed with hight level of HU values of the portal vein, so as to have the potential to lessen the dose of contrast media, while for those who were in the above ranges of the standard of each value, it seems to require to increase the dose of contrast media. However, further studies are required to quantify the accurate doses of the contrast media.
