A Study on Kim Ae-ran's Early Short Stories The purpose of this research paper is to study the humane values and literary achievement the author tried to convey by considering writership revealed by the characters in the Ae-ran Kim's early works. The characters in novels are the fundamental components to make the story and reveal the writership. The characters in the Ae-ran Kim's novels, especially, are the core parts of the novel structure by expressing the characteristic of each category. In the 2000s, human relationships have gotten hard-hearted and human alienation has been prevailed because of the development of networks and limitless competition under neo-liberalism. The author was never detached from the young struggling with the problems of this age. Instead, she dragged them into her work and made the prototypical figure of the age. Ae-ran Kim expressed her affection and interest for the characters going through the age of the 2000s by showing the conflicts and their actions between the characters in the works. The typical characters in the Ae-ran Kim's works are a father who throws out his authoritative feature, a narrator who refuses to show himself, and a leading character who reconciles himself with the world through illusions. These figures and the conflict they go through can be defined as the distinctive features of the life in the 2000s. In the second chapter, how the personality of each character, which is the reason of the conflict, was formed is shown based on the character creation theory in the novels. In the third chapter, the characters in the novel were divided into three categories in the light of senses and actions derived from the environment and characters based on the situations of the 2000s. Those are a breadwinner who loses his authority, a narrator as an observer who refuses to show his identity, and a leading character who overcomes his wounds through illusions. Her works of 'Run, Father', 'I go to a convenience store', 'Who dares to display fireworks on the beach', and 'Un knocked house' are analyzed for this research. In the fourth chapter, the relationship between a sense of writer which captures one aspect of the age and types of characters are analyzed by doing research on the flow of a society in the 2000s and an aesthetic method of research. In the final chapter, Ae-ran Kim's view of the world, which is the foundation for creating characters, is drawn revealing her writership through each character, along with the summary of the content. This is the research of characters in novels on the basis of correlation of the types of characters and writership. This research is considerably intriguing and meaningful work in that it can be applied to writing sound works as well as reading works.
