Abstract
This study is the art education program development based on Neo-DBAE.
This study examined the attributes of Neo-DBAE, as an art understanding education that values the intrinsic values of art, which has developed reflecting the demands from a multi-cultural society and the era of Post Modernism.
I analyzed the background behind how DBAE evolved into Neo-DBAE based on the concept and attributes of DBAE, its significance as an art educations theory, and its criticisms, for such research purposes. There are two major attributes of Neo-DBAE, which were formed through practical interactions with the field and the rise of both Post Modernism and the Constructivism trends in education: the overlap of four disciplines and the maintenance of open concepts through selective application. Such attributes allowed art education to accept Post Modernism, to expand the contents of art education, to integrate its curriculums with those of related studies, and to enlarge the depth and width of experience. Neo-DBAE, which has justification and validity as a modern art education theory by embracing Post Modernism and pluralistic trends as well as the intrinsic values of art, accepts the demands for visual culture education with the expansion of contents and integrated curriculums.
Most of the educators in Korea has recognized the need for Korean traditional art education. Despite such recognition, our education has neglected practically traditional art education. The characteristics of Korean traditional art are the naturalism and the naivety that it hasn't special skilled ability. The traditional art should be instructed to coincide this characteristics.
The art education is composed of the understanding, the expression and appreciation about fine arts. The art education should be integrated the understanding, the expression and appreciation. The direction of art education are the identity education beyond simple technique, the development of various art material, the selection of easy and joyfully art education contents, the connection with field learning.
The direction of school art education derived from Neo-DBAE are as follows :
First, to enhance the literacy of visual information and to value critical thinking. Second, to value the exploratory prior activities of creative activities. Third, to expand integrated teaching methods to help contextual understanding of various cultures.
I hope there would be active following researches and the practices through a new understanding of Neo-DBAE
