본 연구에서는 아동의 정신적 표상을 알아보기 위하여 Buck(1948)에 의해 개발된 HTP 그림검사를 실시하였으며, Van Hutton(1994)의 채점체계에 근거하여 네 개의 소척도 중 ‘성관련 생각에 몰두(Preoccupation with Sexuelly Relevant Concepts; STC)’를 제외한 ‘공격성과 적개심(AH: Aggression and Hostility)’, ‘철수와 접근신중성(WGA: Withdrawal and Guarded Accessibility)’, ‘위험에 대한 각성, 의심스러움, 믿음의 부족 (ADST: Alertness for Danger, Suspiciousness, and Lack of Trust)’ 세 개의 척도만을 사용하였다.

This study examined characteristics of children with externalization and internalization problems by the HTP test and the KFD test. The subjects were selected from children aged five to seven who were referred to an infant and child counseling center in Seoul for a comprehensive psychological test from 2007 to 2012 and diagnosed with internalization problems such as anxiety and depression and externalization problems such as ADHD, ODD, and aggression problems. The K-CBCL was administered to select an internalization group of 21 children, an externalization group of 25 children, and anormal group of 19 children. In order to identify mental representation of children, the HTP test developed by Buck (1948) was conducted, and only three scales were used based on the scoring system of Van Hutton (1994): Preoccupation with Sexually Relevant Concepts (STC), Aggression and Hostility (AH), Withdrawal and Guarded Accessibility (WGA), and Alertness for Danger, Suspiciousness, and Lack of Trust (ADST). The Kinetic Family Drawing test developed by Burns and Kaufman (1972) was performed and scoring was based on the index of Peterson and Harddin (1994) which used both quantitative and qualitative measurement. The results are as follows. First, the AH analysis of the three groups of children found that the internalization group had the highest level. No difference was found between the normal group and the externalization group and between the externalization group and the internalization group. Second, In the WGA analysis, the externalization group showed the highest score, and no difference was found between the normal group and the internalization group and between the internalization group and the externalization group. Third, among the three groups, the internalization group showed the highest average in terms of the peculiarity/strangeness area in the picture quality, and the externalization group showed the highest average in terms of order. The post-analysis performed to verify the findings revealed that there was a difference in terms of the peculiarity/strangeness area in the picture quality between the normal group and the two clinical groups. Fourth, in terms of shape and distortion of mothers, shape of fathers, and shape of themselves, the average score of the internalization group was the highest. No difference was found between the normal group and the internalization group and between the externalization group and the internalization group. In terms of self distortion, the average score of the internalization group was the highest and no difference was found between the two clinical groups, implying that children in the clinical groups were more likely to distort themselves in pictures than children in the normal group. Fifth, in terms of floating in the treatment of figures in the KFD, the normal group recorded the highest average, and no difference was found between the externalization group and the internalization group and between the internalization group and the normal group. Sixth, in terms of negative behavioral characteristics revealed by the KFD, the internalization group showed the highest average of aggression/weapons and no difference was found between the normal group and the externalization group and between the externalization group and the internalization group, showing a different average in only one group.
