With the rapid reduction of birth rate and the medical development making life span longer, ageing of the society is accelerated in a non‐comparable speed to any other country in the world. The aspects of aged population are shown in rural areas more severely than city areas. The overall population in rural areas is decreasing because of the decrease in productive population but population over 65 is increasing gradually. Thus, rural areas become ultra aged societies. The purpose of this study was to review the relationship between participation in social learning activities and self‐efficacy and life satisfaction of elderly people who participate in the health and long life project, and to provide basic materials for policy makers to provide for the aged in rural areas with vibrant life. For the study, 227 elderly people in an agricultural village designated as the sample village for health and long life project in 2010 were surveyed on social learning activities out of their leisure life to make their lives healthy and proud and the changes in self‐efficacy and life satisfaction. Survey results were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0 program to review demographical characteristics of responders, the relationship between participation in social learning activities, and self‐efficacy and life satisfaction utilizing frequency analysis, chi-square(χ2-test), factor analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis, and further the relationship between self‐efficacy and life satisfaction. The followings are the summary of the study results on effects of participation in social learning activities of the aged in the agricultural village on self‐efficacy and life satisfaction. First, self‐efficacy increased according to the participation in social learning activities. In particular, as they participated in social learning activities more actively, their activeness in self‐efficacy and responding capabilities to health and disability factors increased, which made the hypothesis partially accepted. For the aged, it seems that we can help them to discover egos and give motivation through continuous education and further in‐depth studies about it should be followed. Second, it was found that the hypothesis on the relationship between participation in social learning activities and life satisfaction was partially accepted. Based on the study results, further studies on requests, importance and satisfaction for the current social learning activities should be followed and active supports are needed to develop village dimension programs for life‐long education and social activities. Third, the hypothesis on the relationship between self‐efficacy owing to the participation in social learning activities and life satisfaction was partially accepted. Based on the results, it is needed to develop educational programs related to social learning to enhance self‐efficacy and self‐efficacy seems to make life of the aged more vibrant. For this, welfare for the aged is needed and active studies on welfare of the aged specifically in rural areas should be performed such as rural healthy and long life villages project. As welfare is not an issue that civil division can solve completely, although many civil organizations begin to pay attention to it, national dimension countermeasures should be developed and studies on the enhancement and improvement of quality of life of the aged.
