This study attempts to examine effects of process-based role play involved with a normal child on social interaction and communication of children with autistic disorder. The process-based roll play means an activity that its process becomes a purpose: the process of activity can be considered as a result, and also its method as a purpose. In this study the roll play of the 'Golden Ax and Silver Ax', an Aesop's fable and 'Concert in Forest', a creative fairy tale with a subject of a quarrel between friends, written together by researchers and children were practiced. The social interaction and communication were implemented through the process-based activities, including invitation for parents to the performance, make-up, stage ornament, manufacture of props, decisions of both team's slogan and nicknames of each children with disability, physical and linguistic stimulation and examples shown by a normal child happening in the roll play. Three children diagnosed as having mild/serious autistic disorders and one normal child participated in this study, which was implemented for about 4 months and 20 days from June 05 to October 23, 2012. In this study, 5 sessions of baseline, 20 sessions of intervention, and 3 sessions of generalization were practiced by applying AB design. After four weeks 3 sessions of maintenance evaluation were conducted in order to verify the effect of maintenance after the end of the program. The results of this study are as follows: First, the process-based roll play involved with a normal child enhanced the social interactions of children with autistic disorder, such as 'reacting to name-calling', 'sharing some toys', and 'laughing together'. Second, the process-based roll play involved with a normal child improved the communication of children with autistic disorder, such as 'answering to questions', 'spontaneous demanding', and 'expressing their decision-making'. Third, the process-based roll play involved with a normal child positively affected the maintenance of social interaction, communication, and generalization of children with autistic disorder. This study suggests that the process-based roll play involved with a normal child improves the social interaction and communication of children with autistic disorder and also that is an effective method for generalization and maintenance.
