It has been three years by 2012 to carry out the social integration program from the Ministry of Justice. In this research, I study ‘The Understanding of Korea’ in the curriculum of the social integration program, and I suggest the effective directions of education through the process of the textbook analysis, analysis of the teachers' opinions, learners' and needs analysis. Based on the curriculum and process of ‘The Understanding of Korea’ in 「The Understanding of Korea as Foreigners」, criteria of analysis are politics, history, law, geography, economy, society, culture, education, life style and current affairs, rule of law and legal culture in the program which is ‘The Understanding of Korea’ from the Ministry of Justice. The content of the survey consists of personal identification, a measure of the understanding of curriculum in ‘The Understanding of Korea’, satisfaction, learning related matters and suggestions for learners in order to recognize the factors in specific environments. In chapter 1, I describe the educational purpose of ‘The Understanding of Korea’ as education of Korean, and I observe the integration program from the Ministry of Justice with previous researches. In addition, I look over the cultural education and the related affairs as long as I focus on the society of Korea and papers that are related to culture as the major content of ‘The Understanding of Korea’. In chapter 2, I look at the overall content of the politics and process of integration program from The Ministry of Justice. Furthermore, I check the Korean language as a curriculum and the training time, educational goals, fields and contents of textbook of ‘The Understanding of Korea’ as a textbook. Besides, I analyze the textbook「The Understanding of Korea as Foreigners」, which is used as a major textbook in the process of ‘The Understanding of Korea’ as a program of integration. In chapter 3, after I did a survey targeting learners and teachers who are participating the curriculum of ‘The Understanding of Korea’ in 2012, I analyze the needs of learners and the opinions of teachers. Based on the needs of learners and teachers, I suggest alternatives for a textbook of the process and curriculum of ‘The Understanding of Korea’ in chapter 4. This result of the analyzed textbook will function as a basic role in comprehending the effectiveness of the textbook, ‘The Understanding of Korea’, and will contribute to the improvement of the textbook ‘The Understanding of Korea’
